378.0. "HELP - Restore Problems" by LACS01::ORLOWSKI () Wed May 21 1997 14:36

I am running SQL Server 6.5 (with SQL Server - service pack 2) on an
Alpha with NT 3.51. Replication is also running on this server.

While increasing the tempdb in Ram, yesterday, I managed to get the
memory allocation too high (????) and corrupted the Master DB (I
think). I tried to restore the Master (and msdb) databases from the
    night before's full backup.

All seems to go according to the restore procedures in the SQL Server
admin manual for the Master db -- BUT once the Master database has been
restored, the server (SQL) will not start so I can restore the msdb.
When trying to start, I get the log file that is attached to the
bottom of the message. The error message I get when I try to start it
is to the effect: DB-Library: SQL server is not found or not available

I was able to recreate the same errors (tempdb too large), restore
Master and msdb on my intel server (pentium) development machine (same
basic configuration without replication). BUT, if I follow the same
procedures on the Alpha, it fails (see log below).

Microsoft knowledge base has been unavailable today, but I could find
    little about it yesterday.

    Any ideas???????????????

    Regards,
    Stan
