345.0. "CMDexec in MSsql scheduler useable for daily msaccess reporting ?" by HLFS00::ERIC_S (Eric Sonneveld MCS - B.O. IS Holland) Thu Mar 06 1997 09:34

Is there a way to use the MC SQL scheduler to perform daily task like
generate reports produced by MSaccess ?
I can use the scheduler from NT resource kit to run scheduled reports,
but would like the nicer SQL scheduler.
Is it possible to use the type CMDEXEC as vehicle to start e.g.
    msaccess ?

I tried and sofar the only thing I can see is nothing (no entries in
the eventlogger nor in the SQL errorlogger), but when the task is
started a beep is heared on the system the task is scheduled.

Eric, do you want to schedule jobs to run on the same machine or a
different machine? If it's the same machine then it should be easy.
When I was working on RCW (which I'm sure your familiar with!) the EODB
feeder and the Synch tasks were run from the SQLServer scheduler.
Unless it has changed since v2 you can just look and see how it's done.

    Cheers,
    Brian
345.2foreign exe's work - msoffice not ??HLFS00::ERIC_SEric Sonneveld MCS - B.O. IS HollandFri Mar 07 1997 08:5610
I can not get anything to work form the cmdexec. I changed the user
SQLexec was running under to the user we did this setup on and now the
system won;t beep anymore. It just can start msaccess when only the
path spec to msaccess is specified. In task mgr i see the msaccess.exe
process pop up. But as soon as I try to pass params to it is end's up
    with error's like:
'The system can not find the file specified' were I'm sure that the
    syntax is correct.
