496.0. "UG 11.1.3 and Digital UNIX 3.2d-1 compatible ?" by GYPOS3::EIBL (Reinhard Eibl @FKR, DTN 865-4027) Wed May 28 1997 14:15

Hello all,

have a customer with sporadic system hangs after "right mouse button"
features of UG have been used.

He is running UG 11.1.3 on Digital UNIX 3.2d-1, as 600 5/266, ZLXp-L1

The WWW "Tuning Guide" is for UG 11.1.2 and there Digital UNIX >= 4.0a
is given as the required operating system. So i assume for customers
version 11.1.3 also at least Digital UNIX 4.0a is required. Right ?

Are there any experiences with UG 11.1.3 and Digital UNIX 3.2d ?

Thanks in advance for help.
/Reinhard

    UG v11.1 requires Digital UNIX v3.2 as minimum.

    Is he using the latest version of Open3D (v3.3 or v3.4 ?) that is
    SUPPORTED on DUX v3.2d?

    Also, is his using the OVERLAY PLANES option ? If his window
    manager is either XDM or CDE, he can make use of overlay planes with
    that graphics card. If so, you have to instruct UG to use the overlays
    too. That setup and other tuning is in WABG's UG Configuration guide.

    Also, See the EDS/UG Software Field Bulletin #SFB-DUX-327. The CDE
    setup is showm there as:

    CDE
    ===

       Note that a window manager with overlays is now supported using CDE,
       (Common Desktop Environment). So when using a graphics board that
    supports
       overlays (all ZLX and PowerStorm boards except the ZLX(p)-E1 and
       PowerStorm 3D30), do the following:

            1)   In UG 11.x, set

                    UGII_USE_OVERLAYS=1

                 in the $UGII_BASE_DIR/ugii/.ugii_env file

            2) Use the dtwm_overlay window manager. To do this, edit the
                 .Xdefaults file in each users's $HOME directory to include
                 this line:

                    Dtsession*wmStartupCommand: /usr/dt/bin/dtwm_overlay
    -Overlay

                 Optionally, the window manager can be limited to four colors to
                 allow more colors for applications. This is done by editing
    		 each user's .Dtwm file in their $HOME directory to include
    		 this line:

                    Dtwm*0*overlayColorUse: FOUR_COLOR

Thanks for the info.

Forgot to list the Open3D version in re.0 .
They still have 3.2 because it was so in the installation guide.

I'll suggest them to go to Open3D 3.4 and let them check the
overlay stuff.
