| Tom,
There are a few possible explanations, but one possibility is memory.
If the Alphastation 500 is running UNIX, it will need more memory
for a given Unigraphics task than a system (even the same system)
running Windows NT. Can you tell if the Alphastation 500 is paging?
Does it show a lot of disk activity while running your test?
It's also possible that one of the systems was running the OpenGL
driver and the other wasn't. It's hard to say which would be faster
without actually seeing the test, but it's not uncommon for the 2D
and 3D (OpenGL) drivers in OpenGL to have very different performance.
You don't mention the speeds of the systems. Can you provide the
following information for both systems?
1) Clock Speed and CPU type
2) Memory configuration (cache, memory, swap file size)
3) Operating system and version
4) Graphics card and Graphics software.
