417.0. ""slow" spin problem resolution" by WRKSYS::CHALTAS (Lies, Damn Lies & Statistics) Thu Feb 27 1997 03:52

    I could have sworn that this had been discussed here, but I
    can't find it, so here goes.

    A number of users have reported that spin mode seems "slow" w;hen
    displaying a simple model and using the new PowerStorm cards
    (4D40T, 4D50T, 4D60T). This problem has been traced to one
    of poor synchronization between the rendered model and the
    mouse motion, and has finally been corrected. The fix comes
    in two parts:

    1) Pro/E rev. 17 9708 or later
    	(Rev. 18 coming soon, but not in the first release)
    2) Open3D V4.2 or later (or GSSS V4.2 or later).

    You must have both parts for the fix to work.

417.1required anyway...HYDRA::DONSBACHJeff Donsbach, Software Partner Engineering, DTN 297-6862Thu Feb 27 1997 12:286

    For V18, Open 3D 4.2 is a requirement anyway. So upgrade now if
    that's not what you have for Open 3D installed.

417.2Similar behavior seen for AccelPROOSLLAV::JENSHJens Holwech, SBU Workstation Sales Support, Norway (DTN 872-8543)Fri Feb 28 1997 08:1311
I just got a call from a PTC AE, who said that he
had seen this kind of behavior on a Personal Workstation
433a with AccelPRO 2000 (4.1.10 Field Test driver, Pro/E
17 9647, ref note 408.10).

Could this be related to the 4DT issue at all, i.e.
would 9708 alone improve this, or would the AccelPRO
driver need to be modified as well?

Regards,
Jens
417.3could beWRKSYS::CHALTASThere's a feature in my soup!Fri Feb 28 1997 13:1810
    It could be related -- the key is that the behavior *only* happens
    with very simple models -- if the model gets more complex the
    problem goes away.

    The change to Pro/E Rev 17 9708 was also submitted for all
    Alpha NT boards, but depends on the glFinish call doing the
    right thing in the graphics board's driver. I have no idea
    if the AccelPro driver does the the right thing.

The previous note may well be 412 - if it's the simple model
slow at *starting* the rotation one...
