2415.0. "What Soundblaster is in HiNote Ultra I?" by WOTVAX::16.42.3.105::hiltong (hiltong@mail.dec.com) Tue May 27 1997 17:10

I just tried running Duke Nukem on my HiNote Ultra, and at setup time
it does a soundcheck. No matter what version of soundblaster I try I
hear music when it tests the center channel, but here nothing when it
tests the left and right channels.

This is with both the base unit, and also plugged into the CD-ROM
unit.

Any idea what type of Soundblaster I should tell it I have, and if
this should work ok?

2415.1Even more confused!!WOTVAX::16.195.80.52::hiltonghiltong@mail.dec.comTue May 27 1997 19:1323
I looked into this tonight and have some more questions.

Without the CD-ROM unit I have a ESS Audiodrive setup with the
following settings:

I/O: 220
IRQ: 5
DMA: 1

But in the profile set-up by the Workbench team, this is disabled
when the CD-ROM is installed, and instead I have a Digital PCMCIA
Audio, which has a setting of

I/O : 240
IRQ : 10

So does the CD-ROM unit have another Soundboard in it with different
settings to the one installed in the CD?

The more I look into this the more confused I get, any further info,
pointers, etc much appreciated!!!!

Yes, the CD-ROM unit (multimedia module, MMM) does come with a better sound card
and three built-in loudspeakers. Sound is definitely better than with the
built-in sound module and the mini-speaker. I also disabled the onboard sound
card in the configuration that contains the MMM because I ran out of interrupts
when using other PCMCIA cards.

The settings on my Ultra I match yours as reported in .1 except that my ESS
Audiodrive uses a second I/O port at 388.

Hope this helps,
Hans.
2415.3Ok, but it doesn't work!WOTVAX::claire.lzo.dec.com::hiltonghiltong@mail.dec.comThu May 29 1997 10:176
Hmm,

No Dos games will work with the settings that should use the MMM
unit, does anyone have DOS games running with this?
