2395.0. "Power management not working on VP545?" by VAOU09::ras018p04.vao.dec.com::FBROWN (Fred Brown, NT Wizard) Fri May 02 1997 04:00

I currently have a HiNote VP545 and have noticed that the power
management features don't appear to be working.

I've set the BIOS to power down my disk after 1 minute, go to standby after
10 minutes, go to suspend after another 10 and finally go to
suspend-to-disk after another 10 minutes. I've also ensure that the power
management under Windows 95 is set to "Advanced" and yet my disk never
stops spinning, and never goes into standby mode. If I manually suspend the
PC, it will do a suspend-to-disk after 10 minutes.

The only time I got my disk to spin down was when I booted to the DOS
prompt and waited.

I used to have the power managment features disabled when on AC power but
even turning them on in this mode doesn't make a difference.

I'm not running any special applications that I know of. I don't run the
"fast find" stuff from Office 97 and the system monitor shows little CPU
activity when I'm not doing anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
