2386.0. "No PC Card bridge after W95 OSR2 upgrade on VP535" by QUARK::LIONEL (Free advice is worth every cent) Mon Apr 28 1997 13:58

I have one remaining problem after upgrading a VP535 to W95 OSR2. The
"Cirrus Logic PCIC compatible PCI to PCMCIA bridge" device does not work. The
message in Device Manager is:

This device is not present, not working properly, or does not have
all the drivers installed. See your hardware documentation (Code 10.)

I have followed the instructions in the "kit" on the BBS which says to run the
provided INSTALL.BAT, remove the device and run the PC Card applet. No good.
Curiously, sometimes after I have tried various things, the device comes up
as "disabled for this configuration", but when I try to enable it, it goes
back to "not present...".

I have also tried deleting the socket and pccard driver VXDs and reinstalling,
no luck. Assistance would be appreciated.

Did you remove from control panel/system/device manager and then
reboot? Win95 should autodetect it. If not, you should add New Hardware
    and let it autodetect.

    Try these.

Yes - many times. It does autodetect it, but when it installs the software,
it comes up as either "Disabled" or "Not working". I have also run the
Control Panel PCMCIA applet which claims to "remove real-mode" drivers (which
I don't have), and after it's done, and I do a power-cycle, the bridge is
listed as "not working".

    Hi Steve,

I had this problem some time ago and the only way I found of getting
around it was to copy the drivers from the original Windows 95 kit.

    The files you want are

    c:\windows\system\socketsv.vxd
    c:\windows\system\pccard.vxd

Delete or rename the current ones, copy from the original 95 kit and reboot.

Thanks - I may have messed up my system by trying to reinstall W95 - it
won't boot, now. Sigh.

I FINALLY got it to work - had to copy the blasted files several times
before they "stuck". But eventually they did. Thanks.

I wonder why the drivers that come with OSR2 don't work?
