2374.0. "ultra II, only 640x480?" by NCMAIL::LEFFLERM () Thu Apr 17 1997 11:34

    I have an Ultra II, NT 4.0. Can't get the display to do any better than
    640X480. I've used the drivers off of our pc web site, and I also
    pulled the drivers down from chips' web site.

    From other notes in here it looks like it's possible to go above 640.
    What's the trick?

    Thanks,
    Mark

    After some experimentation, I find that it is not a NT-only problem. I
    have the same issue with win95. Is this a hardware problem? I've tried
    win95 drivers from the PCBU site as well as www.chips.com...

    Hi Mark,

    Assuming the hardware actually does 800x600, I would suggest that you
    make sure that you have told the O.S. that your display is an 800x600
    LCD panel.

    Can't think of anything else at the moment.

2374.3virtual desktopNCMAIL::LEFFLERMFri Apr 18 1997 19:2312
    In 95 and NT I have used the desktop properties to switch between the
    different screen resolutions. When I size anything higher than 640x480,
    the screen becomes a "virtual screen", which allows me to PAN through
    800x600, or even 1024x768, but I can only view a "window" that is
    640x480.

    Let me say that I have installed a dozen or more hinote ultras from
    scratch and have never seen this problem. This is the 1st Ultra II I
    have worked with- I was wondering if there is something unique here or
    if I have a bad display.

    You donot happen to have a CTE 5100 model?
    This is an entry model (P/N FR-P84WE-A*) and the only one Pentium model
    having VGA only 640x480 screen resolution.

    It's a 5100 all right. Thanks for the info, at least this solves the
    mystery...
