2327.0. "535 reporting a 166Mhz processor after upgrade!" by SNOFS1::16.153.96.192::powellronald (Australia!) Tue Mar 11 1997 03:18

A customer has updated the bios on a VP535 using
31g1105d. When the machine boots, the CPU speed is
reported as 166Mhz on the start up banner. Is this
correct or has something gone wrong? Will it cause
problems?
 [Also the .txt message says the 535 has a 135Mhz
processor- hopefully this is only a typo- or have we over
or under clocked the CPU? ]

Mine does this too - but only sometimes. Other times it correctly reports
133MHz. It doesn't seem to cause any harm. The BIOS gets this from a code
supplied by the CPU, it doesn't actually "time" it.

    No, the BIOS does not cause the Pentium to run faster. We screwed up
    on the confirmation message.

Many thanks, a much relieved customer is now apparent!
