2311.0. "How to restore Phoenix Boot partition?" by ELIS::TOWERS () Wed Feb 26 1997 08:49

I recently aquired a refurbished Hinote VP cts5100 which had had the
hard disk fdisked and then sys a: c:. I've formed the battery, installed
DOS 6.22 (just in case) and Windows 95 (v1 so far). I grabbed the
kit for the latest sound blaster (1688 PnP?) drivers and installed
that and so far everything is wonderful, or almost...

The one fly in the ointment is the message on boot up about not
having the PhoenixBios partition, or something like that. I guess
that is for saving the system to disk on low power. Is there anything
I can do to restore this partition and functionality?

    Cheers,
    Brian

There is a uitility called PHDISK for the VP. Run this and it should
fix your problem. There is a readme file as well.

Thanks. Interestingly the readme tells you to run phdisk *before*
fdisk. So I should have done this before installing W95 etc.
Oh, well, something to do on a wet weekend.

    Hi Brian,

As with most disk partition changes, it is easier to do before you
commit the entire disk to a partition. There are special software
tools that can modify partition sizes on the fly, but that would
only confuse things at this point.

    That would be best...
