21.1 | Some options | BAHTAT::HILTON | Beer...now there's a temporary solution | Wed Jun 15 1994 15:12 | 40 |
| At the command line...
Type: Doom -devparm -wart %1 %2 -skill %3
%1 is episode number
%2 is map number (1-9)
%3 is skill level (1-4)
Ex: "Doom -devparm -wart 1 1 -skill 4" will start you on the first
map of episode one with the hardest skill level.
Type: Doom -devparm -wart %1 %2 -skill %3 -record $a
%1, %2, %3 are same as above.
$a is the name of file you record to, don't include
extension.
Ex: "Doom -devparm -wart 1 2 -skill 1 -record Vhold" will put you on
episode 1, map 2, skill level 1, and start recording what you do
to a file named "Vhold.lmp" To finish, you MUST either die or
finish the level, then it will dump you to dos. If you exit any
other way, it won't save the file.
Type: Doom -devparm -playdemo $a
$a is the name of the file you recorded.
Ex: "Doom -playdemo Vhold" will playback the file vhold.lmp you
recorded.
-devparm turns on Development mode, doing so makes F1 take screen shots
in the game and I'm sure it also enables the cheat keys I'm sure. It is
necessary to use -devparm with the other commands other wise it gives you
the usual start-up menu and makes the other options null.
Type doom -timedemo -demo1
Then leave your PC alone, when you die the demo will run on for a while longer,
then exit to DOS with the gametics and realtics numbers and then just use the
formula gt*35/rt=FPS.
This will tell you the number of frames per second (FPS) Doom is running at.

Does anyone out there know what the cheat is to see your opponent on
deathmatch?
I read somewhere it was iddt but this just lets me type messages to my
opponent.
I am using V1.2 on sersetup playing starwar2.wad with nomonsters.
and a null modem cable.

Thankfully Id disabled cheating while in deathmatch. If you were
able to cheat what would be the point of playing deathmatch ???

You don't need a "cheat" to see your opponent in DeathMatch - it just
happens (t'wouldst be a bit pointless if that wasn't true)...

| Can anyone explain the difference between the following.
-altdeath. I know it's a command line prompt, but does it give you
anything out of the ordinary.
Selecting deathmatch in setup.
What is Deathmatch 2.0 under the warp screen.
Does using one of the above give you something different in Deathmatch
mode that another one wouldn't?

Hi all,
RE: Deathmatch -altdeath
Deathmatch 2.0 and -altdeath do basically the same thing, they
allow respawning of items during a deathmatch mode except
for invisibilities and invincibilitites.
Does this help?
Mike.

I have a PWAD called Megadeth. Good fun in single player mode but it is
designed for deathmatch. I play deathmatch on a serial connection and
have no idea how to get one working using this PWAD. Can I do it from
the 1.666 setup or do I have to do it through command line
instructions?? It doesn't explain it in the TXT file.

| I think it's something along the lines of :-
SERSETUP -FILE MEGADETH.WAD -DEATHMATCH
There are extra options for line speed, alternative deathmatch rules,
no monsters, etc. but that should do it. Anyone?

Dan,
I'm getting closer. Tried your previous and it boots into
deathmatch but at E1L1. Megadeth is E2L7.
Tried >sersetup -file megadeth.wad -altdeath -wart 2 7 1.
I now get it booting but it says can't open e:\doom\e2m7.wad.
How do I get to E2M7 ?

Thanks Dan,
It works. Only two of us here play Deathmatch and I'm unbeaten. Usually
only quick games - first to five frags. Last game on megadeth was a 5
to -1 victory.
Love it....

| We had a lot of trouble getting serial deathmatch to work last weekend.
We managed to use standard DOOM1/2 ok via setup, but we wanted to use
some DOOM1 deathmatch WADs via sersetup. We could load WADs ok, but if
we used a -deathmatch switch, the extra WAD didn't work. As DOOM came
up, it would claim to be loading the WAD, but it didn't appear. Here's
the command line we were using on each machine (yes, the com port stuff
is correct):
sersetup -file wadname.wad -com1 -irq4 -57600 -deathmatch
Should we have been using a [-nodes 2] command? Should we have used
-warp to get to the correct level for the deathmatch wad (E1M1)? Does
anyone know where we were going wrong?
Cheers, Laurie.

| I think you *can* try the NODES 2 command, it might help. Other than
that, I used to use the same command except I never bothered specifying
an IRQ number?... :-(
You shouldn't need to warp if it's the first level you want to go to
(E1M1)... make sure each machine is using exactly the same WAD (just
checking!!) and, apart from that, if one of the machines has a slower
serial port try using a slower speed (ie. doesn't have one of those
nice lovely 16550 UARTs, eh Laurie ;-) nudge nudge !!!)
Cheers,
Dan

21.29 | | PLAYER::BROWNL | An Internaut in CyberSpace | Tue Mar 28 1995 15:16 | 20 |
| Here's the scoop:
Machine A) Pentium P90
B) 486DX2-80 Gigabyte EIDE, 16550 UART
C) 486DX4-100 Promise EIDE, 16550 UART
Machines A and B will talk to each other, neither will talk (properly)
to machine C. The game comes up, and then hangs for a few seconds at a
time at random intervals. Machine C has a bus mouse, others have a
serial mouse. The occasional hangs make the game unplayable. Machine C
plays DOOM perfectly well stand-alone, and only caused problems in
serial mode after I installed the EIDE card.
The command line problem is something else, and was happening between A
and B. We could run either DOOM in deathmatch using SETUP, but command
line SERSETUP wouldn't play if we tried to use an external WAD file. We
were using the command line I mentioned earlier. And no Shaun, the
margheritas only seemed to affect you that way! ;^)
Cheers, Laurie.

| >>C) 486DX4-100 Promise EIDE, 16550 UART
Hmmm... sounds familiar.... 2300+?.....Promise? AMD? ;-) ;-)
Is is something to do with the fact that the Promise's serial port
is '16550 compatible' and not necessarily an actual '16550' ?? Plus it
needs drivers loaded beforehand, yes?
As for the command line option, I dunno.... I'd have to check out
the FAQ or something..... soz, Loz :-( can't help you there. More of a
netty player, me.
Cheers,
Dan, the person whose sole reason for getting the house to buy 4
network cards was to play DOOM !!!!!!!!
