1930.0. "Archiving says it's failed, but hasn't!" by KERNEL::LOAT (Ahead groove factor 5! Yeah!) Wed Dec 09 1992 17:33

    VMS 5.4 ALL-IN-1 3.0

    A customer is running archiving, and when the run finishes, the manager
    gets a mail message saying that there were errors in the archiving run,
    and it tells him to look in the log file.

    He has looked into the log file, and can't find any errors at all!

    I've looked through the scripts which run this, and I can't find out
    where it creates the mail message with this contents. Can anyone out
    there point out how this message is created, and why?

    Below you'll find the message they get, and the log file extract.

    Thanx

    Steve

Note 1684.0 ADS errors.... NOT! 3 replies

    ALL-IN-1 v.3.0 running ADS

    A customer has been running ADS since upgrading successfully. The
    documents are archived and the log file shows no errors. However,
    the mail message that is mailed to the manager or whoever submits the
    job says

    I have tried to trace this and have added set_trace to

    ARC_PROCESS_SYSTEM.SCP;, ARC_PROCESS_FOLDER.SCP;1, ARC_MAIL_REPORT.SCP;

    but for some reason I cannot get a trace of what is happening.

    I can reproduce the problem on our system and the customer has the
    problem on all of his upgraded machines. The jobs have been
    rescheduled since upgrading so it is not a 2.4 job it is picking
    up. This also happens on a freshly installed system.

                  -< Have you checked the archive area used? >-

Was there anything in the specified log file? Since an error mail can be
sent if the archive areas become full/run out of diskquota etc.

    Nope, the log file was error free - I ran it several times as did
    the customer and there was nothing in there. Disk space etc was
    fine and the areas weren't full.

1930.6Problem in processing filecab perhapes?HERO::MORPH::BenoySmoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfastFri Dec 11 1992 16:3011
Well after thinking about this one for a while I would guess, that there
might be a problem in arc_process_folder.scp (this is only a guess mind
you). Since if we have a bad status returned from the cab scan operation
used to trawl through the users filecab we might be seeing the result of
just finding nomore documents using cab scan and then using the return
status of that to set the #mail_flag symbol which determines what gets
written in the mail sent to the manager. But its definatley a bug that
ought to be reported officially.
