2393.0. "delete archive document, what happens to file ??" by MSAM00::HOSOKEHUN () Thu Mar 11 1993 03:58

    Hi,

    I have a queation on archiving on ALL-IN-1 V2.4

    If I sent a mail to 2 people, my copy goes to read box, in the shard
    directoriy. When the 2 users read their mail, the same copy is still in
    the shared directory.

    Now, If we start to archive the same mail, what happens ?? I believe
    that ALL-IN-1 will make a copy of the mail in shared diretory to
    archive. So essentially, my archive area has 3 copies of the same mail
    ?? Then what happens to the original copy in the shared directory ??

    Also, if now I delete the archived mail, what is going to happen to the
    copy that I had archived earlier in the archived area ??

    Thanks in advance for any input.

2393.1Yep, you get multiple copiesAIMTEC::ROSIEP::PORTER_TAtlanta CSCThu Mar 11 1993 04:5919
When you archive a document that is in a mail area then (as you say) a copy
is put in the archive area and the usage count of the one in the mail area is
decremented (just as if you had deleted your reference to it). If all the
user's who reference the document archive it then you will get multiple
copies in the archive area and the copy in the mail area will be deleted
(when the usage count hits 0).

If you delete an archived document then you lose your reference to it and
hence can no longer access it, however the copy in the archive area will
remain untouched.

Normally when you archive a document you end up with two pointers to it, the
original with an ARCHIVED status and a cross reference in the ARCHIVED
DOCUMENTS folder. This reduces the chance of you accidentally deleting the
document.
