4173.0. "KEYWORDS on index too short ..." by TAV02::CHAIM (Semper ubi Sub ubi .....) Tue May 17 1994 18:53

ALL-IN-1 V3.0-1 with WPS V4.1

When creating a document, the user is allowed to add KEYWORDS. The field for
the KEYWORDS is 50 characters long, and I do not see any restriction as to a
maximum length for a KEYWORD.

The Index forms allow entering as many as four KEYWORDS, however the length is
only for 10 characters per KEYWORD.

A customer wishes to use KEYWORDS of 16 characters and be able to retrieve
these documents via Index forms.

DOers anyone forsee a problem in customizing the index form and increasing the
length of the KEYWORD fields?

Thanks,

Cb.

Hi,

The keywords are stored in a single fifty-character DOCDB field KEYWORDS.

On the index form, the BIND simply does:
    ...  .KEYWORDS <=> #SEARCH_KEYWORD1 ...

where #SEARCH_KEYWORD1 is the value of the first ten-character keyword field on
the search fields form. There are similar clauses for the other three keyword
fields.

So, there should be no problem extending these ten character fields to sixteen
characters. The only restriction is that the total length of all keywords
for a document is fifty characters.
