3784.0. "Converting mail attachments" by SEDOAS::DAVIES_G (GLYN DAVIES @ESO) Thu Jan 20 1994 12:03

I am doing some work with a customer around integrating document
converters with ALL-IN-1. (Word for Windows to DX).

I have defined an entry in the format master file for a WINWORD2 tag
and have created scripts for the List and Print functions.

If I have an individual document in the file cabinet that is tagged as
WINWORD2 everything looks good. The document gets converted and the
converted output is displayed on the screen.

The problem arises when a document tagged as WINWORD2 arrives as an
    attachment.

In this case the MAIL READ function is used which displays the message
and then displays the unfriendly message about not being able to view
    FOREIGN documents.

What I would like to happen is for the attachments to be converted and
then displayed without having to file each individual one.

Is it possible to do this and has anybody tried it?

One idea I had was to replace the MAIL READ/UNREAD function with a call to
WPPRINT as this seems to be able to do what I want. The problem then is
to replicate everything else that the MAIL READ/UNREAD function does
like move document to READ folder, decrement new mail count, issue read
    receipts etc.

    Is this a feasable approach?

    Regards,

    Glyn

Printing a mail message before it is read will also move it from the INBOX
to the READ folder and decrement the New Mail count.

Therefore you could use MAIL PRINT instead of MAIL READ. The MAIL PRINT
function invokes the WPPRINT script to do most of its work.

Also, a Print to TERMINAL will individually format each attachment and
display the listing files on the terminal.

...But you will get an "end of document" mark after each attachment. When I
reach this mark myself, I allways hit the 0-key !

What about MAIL READ/NEXT/UNREAD ?

I would be happy to see the MAIL READ function changed, so that it supports the
format settings.
