3490.0. "print of doc in shared drawer - Protection Violation" by LOOKIN::BARHAM (Norbert:) Wed Nov 03 1993 21:47

    ALL-IN-1 3.0-1

Sorry, couldn't find this in here...

When a non-priveleged user tries to print a document in a shared drawer
to which he has just Read access and then presses Next Screen to try
and change the pagination settings, it immediately says

    Protection Violation

I have reproduced this here. I see in the 3.0 release notes it says
something that might be relevant :-

            2.14 Shared Filing

o Some operations are only successful in drawers that you
own. These operations are: (amongst others)

                     o Format Document

Is this the same problem ? I don't see it in the 3.0-1 release notes.
Is it trying to write the temporary .lis file to the drawer owner's
directory (to which he does not have access) ? I was a little confused
    by the trace !

    Thanks,

3490.1Not that I do WPS-PLUS but...AIMTEC::WICKS_AU.S.A 2 England 0 - I was there!Wed Nov 03 1993 21:528
    Clive,

Is DSO involved? I ask because if you look at the DSO cover letter
in section 5 the exact thing you describe is release noted there.

Re: .0

Your reported problem looks the same as the following for which the
required changes have been made for a PFR.

Problem(s) fixed or functionality added:

If a remote user has READ or CREATE privilege to a drawer and attempts to
print a private document, AND change the WPS-PLUS format settings the
following error is returned:

    "Protection Violation"

However, with all other sharing privileges there is no problem and this
will not happen if the WPS-PLUS format settings are not altered. The FMD
option will fail under similar conditions.

Change(s) (include module/routine names where relevant)

The problem occurs because the WPS-PLUS formatter requires write access to
the .WPL file to change the format settings.

When printing documents which the user does not have write access to, such
as files in the shared directories, ALL-IN-1 makes a temporary copy of the
.WPL file which allows the format settings to be changed for the current
print operation.

The tests in the WPSPLUS_FORMAT script when formatting a document have been
changed to:

if file is in a shared directory (OA$SHAR*)
	then make temporary copy of file;

if no write access to file
then make temporary copy of file
	    else format file directly.
