3107.0. "Attachment print problem from VXT2000" by GIDDAY::BURT (Chele Burt - CSC Sydney, DTN 7355693) Thu Aug 05 1993 10:55

Hello and Greetings,

Internal system is ALL-IN-1 V2.4 (British) and highly customised.
The problem is being experienced by an Internal user, running a VXT2000 with
an LN03 as a local (ie attached) printer.

VXT2000 is Version 1.2

Customer is unable to print attachments - when EM with attachments is printed,
the LN03 fails to print the attachments, and displays a flashing "24"
If the customer attempts to do a PA, she receives the message,
"invalid choice - re-enter"

The customer states that she did not experience any problems when she was
doing a print to port LN03 from her VT 330 (which was replaced with the
VXT2000).

Any ideas on what can be done to get this working?

Thanks & regards,

Chele B

3107.1Could be setup or ALL-IN-1 problemIOSG::CHINNICKgone walkaboutThu Aug 05 1993 15:0127
    Hi Chele,

well, I'm just guessing [after all, that's why I'm here :-)] but I'd
look closely at the communications setup on the VXT2000.

Unfortunately, I can't find any LN03 doco to tell you what error code
24 is... If we knew that we might have more idea.

Often these types of problems can be traced to flow control or other
aspects of set-up. I gather the LN03 is on the local VXT serial port.

Do print-screen related functions work properly from the VXT ?? If
these work and print-out from ALL-IN-1 doesn't then you might need to
look more closely at what ALL-IN-1 is sending.

There is a problem in V2.4/V3 with WPS-PLUS V4 where long records (>512
bytes) are generated and the COPY_TO_PORT function can't cope. CSP044
has a fix for this problem, but it is only supposed to be with formats
like LP11. It might be worth trying this patch but it should have
failed for the VT330 as well as the VXT if this were the problem. You
could check the file generated by the formatter to see how long the
    records are.

Not an answer yet, but I hope that a few ideas will help.

    Paul.

3107.2Does the message print?IOSG::NEWLANDRichard Newland, IOSG, REO2-G/L2Thu Aug 05 1993 15:0720

Are you saying that when you print a message which has attachments that the
message is printed but the attachments are not, and that this problem does
not occur if you do the same operation from a VT330?

When a message with attachments is printed ALL-IN-1 generates separate
listing files for the message and each attachment, and then executes a
COPY_TO_PORT function for each listing file. If one listing is printed I
can't see why the others would not be printed.

A standard ALL-IN-1 system does not have a PA option. Is this a local
customization?

Hiya,

Just about everything on this system is a local customization. It's our
internal system :^(

Some changes to the problem description....

If the customer does a print of an EM which has an attachment, both the "main"
text of the document, and the attachment print. The page with the attachment,
has, however, a backwards question mark in the top left hand corner. The LN03
flashes a "24".

If the customer does a "PA" to print attachment, nothing is produced.

If the attachment is filed via FA, the customer states that there is nothing
produced when the document is printed, and when it is READ it is empty.

I have requested that the customer inform her IPS department.
