2042.0. "MPR PT to create printer type" by MSAM03::SOWWAN () Wed Jan 06 1993 11:48

    Hi,
    	My customer needs to setup a HP Laserjet printer but the printer
    device HPLJIII is not found in the printer table.
    	So, I copied the HPLJIII.PRA to his system and then did MPR PT to
    create a printer type HPLJIII. During PT, when I entered HPLJIII at the
    printer device field, it returned 'entry unrecognized...'. However, I
    could find HPLJIII when I did a <GOLD>L at the device field.
    	What else is missing ?
    	Thanks!
    Regards

2042.1.PRA and .PRC neededUTES09::VEENHOFWed Jan 06 1993 12:2314

    First, although late, but a Happy New Year to everybody.

    Sowwan,

    In ALL-IN-1 V2.4, the Device field validation checks for .PRA and .PRC.
    So copying the .PRA is not enough.

    In ALL-IN-1 V3.0 the check for Device field in the PT option only
    checks the .PRA existence.

    Ciao,

2042.2can't find .PRCMSAM01::SOWWANThu Jan 07 1993 04:357
    Simon,
    	Thanks for your prompt reply.
    	However, in my system ie v2.4(with WP-PLUS V4.0), I couldn't find the
    KOA$PRINT_DIR:HPLJIII.PRC and I could still do PT successfully.
    	Where do I get this .PRC for my customer ?

    Regards.
2042.3I don't have oneUTES09::VEENHOFThu Jan 07 1993 11:0718

    Sowwan,

    Unfortunately I don't have a .PRC, and looking at ALL-IN-1 V3.0, which
    doesn't supply the .PRC either, I wonder if you need it.

    However, a number of notes concerning the LaserJet tables have been
    entered in this (but also the Archived one) conference, so maybe some
    of these writers/readers have a copy.

    Ciao,

    	Simon

    PS I could say something about cheating when using option PT
    (interactive OA$VAL_SET_VALID) but I started the year with a promise
    not to do this...)
2042.4Copy another one?IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeThu Jan 07 1993 13:396
    Perhaps you could just make a copy of another "suitable" PRC and use
    that instead.

    Unfortunately I don't know which one would be "suitable" :-)

2042.5No foobar.PRC for foobar.PRA these daysWARNUT::RICEA human resourceThu Jan 07 1993 20:285
    I thought that the old notion of having an associated .PRC for every
    .PRA file disappeared from WPS+ v4.0 onwards ? It confused me the
    first time I saw it too. (Not difficult I know)

    Stevie.
2042.6Just create a .PRC fileIOSG::NEWLANDRichard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4AThu Jan 07 1993 21:4917
The validation on the MPR PT device type field is for WPS-PLUS V3.1, which
is the the version bundled with V2.4. WPS-PLUS V3.1 requires a .PRA and
.PRC file.

The validation on the MPR PT device type field is not changed when you
install the WPS-PLUS V4.0 option.

If you create a file called HPLJIII.PRC you will satisfy the field
validation requirements. Since WPS-PLUS V4.0 will not use this file it
contents do not matter.

The validation on the equivalent ALL-IN-1 V3.0 forms has been updated to
just look for a .PRA file.
