1803.0. "Three-beam projector for DECwindows instruction" by 34339::BRYSON () Tue Nov 28 1989 16:43

Does anyone have any pointers to some good three-beam projectors for usage with
our workstations so that I can improve DECwindows course delivery? I want the
instructors to be able to demonstrate DECwindows features during the delivery
so that all students may see the demo. The workstations will not be at the
students desk during lecture, so I can't use the network capabilities of X. I
have to use a three-beam projector.

Thanks,

David

	A BARCO monitor works.. Try asking the BARCO people or ask John
	ENUF::LEWIS what model BARCO works.

1803.4VR290's are ok but watch out for VR295'sYUPPY::CONNOLLYTue Dec 05 1989 14:3910
    We use a BARCO projector here, and it gives quite good results for
    a VAXstation. Our model is also hooked up to a VT340 and a DS350.
    The character output quality for the VT340 and the DS350 are very
    good but the smaller characters of the VAXstation are a little bit
    of a problem getting the colours aligned in all 4 quadrants of the
    screen. We have had no problems connecting to a VS2000, VS3100,
    VS3500 using a VR290/VR299, but i am told that there are problems
    with the bandwidth if you want to project a firefox (VR295 ???)

    Wait a minute! Before you run out and buy one, 3 of the basic
    questions are:

    	HOW BIG, HOW FAR AWAY, HOW MANY PEOPLE?

    As mentioned in previous replies, several projectors will work--- to
    some degree, but...

    We have done a great deal of research on this for use in the NaC
    Roadshow and it turns out MOST PROJECTORS will work with SOME
    workstations, but not all. (The scan-rate ranges from 10-90mhz).
    Some projectors will work only at the low-end. Some only at the high.
    ALL OF THEM HAVE LIMITED INTENSITY. (We actually use TWO Barco
    projectors registered on top of each other to get the 'nice' bright
    displays we have.)

    Prices range from $15K to 2 or 3 times that number each...

1803.6Barco "GRAPHICS 400"ACTVX1::LEWISFri Jan 26 1990 15:4513
As a matter of fact the Barco "GRAPHICS 400" model is one that I know will
project the VS3100. This particular model also display the VR290 screen as
well. We project the following configurations here in LKG...

	DECstation 3100		VR299 display
	VAXstation 3100		VR299 display
	VAXstation 3500		VR290 display

and several PCs including a Macintosh II with the Apple thirteen inch color
monitor.

1803.7SONY MULTISCAN PROJECTION SYSTEM SED750::DECARLOI came, I saw, it BUGCHECKED !!Mon Jan 29 1990 13:0120
Hello

Back in november I was involved in staging a workstation seminar for about
40 customers. We rented the then unreleased sony SuperData from a company called
Stavekirk. The advantage of the Sony apart from the fact that it made barco
reduce their price, is that you can set up each channel separatly. We also
rented a switcher box. The equipement we demonstrated was:-

	VS3100 COLOUR
	VS3500 COLOUR
	VS3500 MONO
	DS3100 COLOUR
	DS300

The system would also have handled VT'S, video i/p and many other sources all
at the same time.

If you want any more info mail me at SED750::DECARLO OR KEN DECARLO @ESO

1803.8Video switch boxNWGEDU::DINGEMANSHans Dingemans, E.S. HollandTue Jan 30 1990 05:5422
We got a classroom of nine VAXstations 2000 overhere (soon be replaced by
3100) equiped with the large VR290 color monitors. I thought it would
be a nice idea to have the same sort of switchbox like in all the other
classrooms with char cell terminals. It means that the real video signal
must be distributed (and amplified) from the instructor's screen to all
the others rather than sending bits over a RS232 line. Two advantages of
a 'video switchbox' over projection:

  - all screens show exactly the same contents, incl. cursor movements

  - it prevents students from continuing labs, so no more annoying
    clicks from the back of the class

Took me some time to get the necessary papers signed, but now we are about
to install the stuff. It's no official product; a one-person company
developed it according our needs and after some tests. Just as an indication
(if I remember well): $8K.

Will let you know more after installation (hopefully beginning of Feb.).
