2779.0. "TLS 2.7 fonts screwed in SVGA" by BACHUS::COLLART (Li p'ti fouineu - Dtn 856-8796) Thu Mar 27 1997 18:00

			Hello,

	Using Teamlinks Library Services 2.7 on a pc with ATI Mach64 video
	controller and SVGA resolution result in missing letters on the
	display of the VTX page.

	This happends only with TLS (not with Teamlinks mail) and once it
	happened, other Windows applications are impacted as well.

	Installation of last driver from ATI web site did not solved the
	problem.

	This never happen if using the standard Windows VGA driver
	(Windows 3.1).

	Why TLS has this problem and not other Teamlinks office apps ?

	Problem occurs with several other video controllers also.

					Thanks for help

hi Eric,
  I'm on a course all this week so i'm in the office for only a few minutes.

  Apart from that, I've got a list of jobs on a to-do list and this is at no 3
at the moment.

Eric,
  I am in the process of getting hold of an ATI Mach64 video controller so that I can
reproduce this problem.

can the customer use VGA for the moment ? is SVGA a requirement for them ?

> Why TLS has this problem and not other Teamlinks office apps ?
don't know yet.

> Problem occurs with several other video controllers also.
  can you give some info on that ? it may be easier to locate one of those controllers.

	SVGA is a requirement for them, cannot use VGA.

Ok, I asked customer to give me the list of failing controllers and
the version of the driver used when possible. I will post the list as soon
as received.

	Personally, I am using TLS on a PC using a Matrox Millenium (running
in SVGA) with NT 4.0 and Win95 and I don't have the problem with our VTX
network.

2779.6which type ?GALVIA::polomt.ilo.dec.com::dukeWed Apr 30 1997 14:0510
Eric,
   I've been trying to get a loan from Field Service of a Mach64 video
card. They've informed me that there are 2 types of Mach64 video cards:
 Mach64 CX WinBoost
 Mach64 GX ISA 2mb DRAM

 Can you check which one is involved here ?

-thanks,
Ronan
2779.7more questionsGALVIA::DUKERonanTue May 06 1997 20:0328
Eric,
  I've installed the Mach64 GX ISA 2mb DRAM video card on my test machine which
is running Windows 95 at the moment. Before installing Win 3.11, I tested the
card using the W95 drivers.
  There were 4 display adapters loaded:
  ATI Graphics Xpression (mach 64)
  ATI Graphics Pro Turbo (mach 64)
  ATI WinTurbo (mach64)
  ATI Mach 64 (macxw4) (DirectDraw)

 I tested all of these using 1024 x 768 resolution, 256 colours, small fonts,
refresh rate 70MHz.

 Library Services displayed fine using the default font (Courier New).

 I'm going to install Win 3.11 now. But I'd like to enquire from the customer:
 - are they using the default font in TLS (there's a menu option using
Options->Fonts) ?
 - what resolution are they working with ?
 - are they using 16 or 256 colours ? small or large fonts ?
 - which display adapter are they using ?

 If the fonts fail to appear on Win 3.11 while doing so on Win95, I suspect the
ATI driver.

	The test I saw was using default font (Courier New)
	Problem occurred also with Courier (not Courier New)

> - what resolution are they working with ?

	800x600, 480x640

> - are they using 16 or 256 colours ? small or large fonts ?

	256 colors and more

	I still don't know, I asked this to customer via AES since your
	first question, I re-asked this last week without any answer up to now.
	I will try to contact him by phone today.

	That was my first reaction as well, but problem persisted after
	downline-load of very last version from ATI web site.

2779.9interesting...GALVIA::polomt.ilo.dec.com::dukeMon May 12 1997 21:2420
Eric,
  I've replicated this problem somewhat.
  With WfW installed, I found that the digits "1" and "0" were missing when
using 800 x 600, from 256->65k colours.
 If I upped the resolution to 1024x ?, the letters "T" and "E" were missing
but "1" and "0" were back (!).

  I changed the font to FixedSys size 9 and everything was back to normal.
  Also with Courier new size 9.
  I only found the problem with the default font (courier new).

  I also found that when I used 16.7m colours, there were no problems at
any resolution.
  Obviously, more investigation is required. However, I'm out of the
plant from now until next Monday.

  Can the customer use size 9 instead of 8 of the default font, at least
for the time being ? (Once they use it once, it will be saved as default)

Eric,
  I'm being badgered by field service to return their ATI Mach64 card.

  Any news on this one ? I need to give FS some answer.

 If I don't hear back in next few days, I'll let them take it back. If the
customer gets back at a later date, I could probably get another loan.

regards,

	I was on-site 1 week ago and I personnally meet the guy who reported
	this. He told me he tried to send me some info by mail (that I did not
	received) and that he will send it again but I still received nothing.

	He confirmed me also that this problem is important to them. (???)

	I will phone him back and answer here....
