228.0. "Parker Bros. Game" by BUSY::NPEASLEE () Tue Jul 03 1990 18:17

    I'd like to reference note # 34.47 - the noter wrote that she
    had seen a game by Parker Bros. called, "Careers for Girls"
    which included primarily career options for non-professional
    jobs. (Lets not get into a rathole defining non-professional...
    please...just let me get my point across, ok???)

    What I'd like to do is send a letter to Parker Bros. to educate
    them that there are indeed "Careers for Girls" that do not
    include the stereotypical beautician etc. I'd like to let
    Parker Bros. know that there are many women that are engineers,
    managers, secretaries, technicians, etc. and that they would
    be doing a great service to young women if their "game" included
    various careers rather than just a select few.

    If anyone would like to contribute to a letter to P.B. (I thought a brief
    job description and a few enlightening albeit low-key comments
    would be in order ;^)) please let me know. I will take the time
    to coordinate this effort.

    Comments??

    More to the point (for me anyway) - why have *2* such games in the
    first place? Shouldn't all 'Careers' be open to both sexes? Why the
    need to have a girl's and a boy's version in the first place?

228.9But is there really a petition?TLE::D_CARROLLAssume nothingWed Jul 04 1990 00:388
Is someone actually doing a petition? Did I miss that?

If so, me too, Zk2-3/N30. In fact, if you send it to me, I volunteer
to run it around to other ZKites rather than using *slow* interoffice
mail...

228.13A misunderstanding?BEING::DUNNEThu Jul 05 1990 17:218
    I think there's been a misunderstanding. I thought Rita wanted to
    do something and I made a suggestion of something she could do.
    I didn't say I was going to do it. Although I think it's fine to
    do it, I would rather spend my energies elsewhere. I think that
    game will do itself in. I think that people in this country won't
    buy that for their kids.

    I think I see the misunderstanding. The original text of the note was
    not mine. I found it in another notesfile and received permission from
    the original author (Mark) to cross-post his note in Womannotes, where
    I felt it would be of value and interest. I posted it without further
    comment.

    Me? For myself, I'll write a letter to the company when I can find the
    time. I don't have the energy to spend organizing anything, but will
    contribute if anyone else feels like it. Whatever.
