Used to be that I found everyone to have their own beauty and did not see why
women needed to paint themselves for anyone...

Still feel that way for myself, but have learned to accept that other women have
other needs than I do...I think I was way past the GCF stage at one point in my
life...

No. I don't carry a lipstick. I don't wear lipstick because it always
gets on my teeth. I carry a chapstick, though, and use it constantly.

    I guess I'm unprepared, in general. I don't carry a pocketknife or a
    lipstick!

maybe I'm just not used to it, but there are some things that look ok
on other women but not on me. Lipstick and nail polish are two of
    them.

A jar of Carmex or Eucerin here sits in the glove box of the car.
Since I don't carry the "dreaded purse", Just the pocket knife, wallet,
and teabags create enough bulges in jeans and jackets.

yes, I carry a lipstick for those 'must wear' occasions when I'll be
presenting to people who won't take me seriously without it. It's in a
goes-with-everything shade called 'Cacao' -- and I've been carrying the
same one for 5 years [yes, 5]

Also I carry my wonderful 'lip goo' or lip conditioner in a tiny jar.
This I use all the time and buy 2 or 3 at a time ... for dry weather,
for skiing, to keep my lips from cracking ... supple lips may not be de
rigeur, but bleeding ones hurt to heaven.

643.11But that cherry-flavored Chapstick is awful!EVETPU::RUSTTue Jan 15 1991 18:4410
Another Chapstick junkie here. Never wore lipstick; doesn't protect my
lips from chapping as well as Chapstick does, smells and tastes funny,
and (me being such a slob) gets all over everything. And I don't like
the way it looks. ("Other than that, it's fine," she said, cheerfully.)

But I suppose a nice, vivid candy-apple red _would_ be better than
Chapstick for writing "HELP! I'M BEING KIDNAPPED!" on the gas-station
    restroom mirror... ;-)

No way. Just a Blistik for those dry days. I used to wear it
occasionally when dressing up, but it was always wearing off,
coming off on drinking glasses, etc. I couldn't see the point

I have a "clear frost" lipstick that I got a while back. It's the only
one I have. When and if I wear it, it just makes it look like I have
lipstick on that's the exact color of my lips.

I may have used it 10 times total. I can't remember exactly when I
bought it but I may have been in school.

I only have to inhale for lipstick to fade from my lips, and since
I'm too lazy to paint my face every few moments I usually stick to

I usually use lip glosses. Cover Girl makes a great stick gloss that
has a hint of color to it, that's what I use most (the red, the pink,
    and the fushia ones).

I've got a very dry spot on my lips, so I have to have something on it
at all time otherwise they will crack and bleed (yuck!).

I hate heavy lipstick, it dries my lips out even more.....I like the
natural look, and the glosses I use do that (just give me a hint of
color....my lips are the same color as my skin...i need a little
    color).

643.24When In Doubt Gloss It Over?ICS::STRIFETue Jan 15 1991 20:1012
I'm in the gloss crowd. My lips are VERY pale and I find a little
color helps. I must confess though -- maybe because I grew up in teh
no lipstick era -- I have the darndest time remembering to reapply it
during the day. Why can't it just stay there like the eye make-up
    does?

    Polly

PS Why gloss? I like the look better and have had a problem with
lipsticks turning purple on my lips. I have a Paprika (reddish),
Raspberry Mist (vivid pink wiht silver frost) and Plum Rose which is
the softest and most often worn.

Blistek for me. On occasion a gloss with a hint of color,
though you can hardly even see that. In the winter, my lips and
skin tend towards the dry side, so I gotta keep 'em moisturized!

I heard on NPR a couple of months ago that some folks seem to be almost
addicted to chapstick -- something about your lips getting more chapped
because of the chapstick so you need to apply more.... I've heard similar
things about nasal sprays. I guess, as in most things, moderation is
    the key.

When I was a teenager, I thought makeup was cool. Then for a while
after I came out, I thought it was totally uncool, and then more
recently I realized that just because it didn't feel good to me to wear
it, it really was ok for other women (or men!) to wear it. Part of me
thinks it can't be very good for you to put plastic stuff with dye in
it on your eyelids or on your lips, but I know I do stuff that isn't
good for me. And... the government wouldn't allow folks to sell products
    that were dangerous, right?

feeling even more cynical and sarcastic since I started reading about
    the assassination of JFK.

Nope, don't carry one, don't even know how to use it. My Mom has been
on my case about it for over 20 years. I have to confess there have
been times I was tempted to try it, but its embarassing to admit that
I don't know the first thing about using it or what color to get.
I know one thing, I could never wear it around my mother, she'd
embarass the h*ll out of me about it. Besides it would ruin my nature
    girl image.

Oh geeze, I'm the one that keeps the cosmetics firms in business I guess. I do
wear lipstick and reapply it or a gloss several times a day. I'm with Carla, I
hate my lips being dry. When I play my horn in a performace I put vaseline on
my lips at every long rest. If you've ever split a chapped lip playing an
instrument you'd know why it's to be avoided at all costs.

I wear blue-pink type colors. My favorite is a gloss called "hint of Fuchia".
If I don't wear it my lips are the same color as my skin. To make up (giggle)
for this lipstick weakness I rarely wear eye make-up and dye my lashes rather
than wear mascara. liesl

I solved the make-up that just doesn't make it (so to speak) problem
by going to Merle Norman (you can get it done other places, inlcuding
a lot of the major department stores) and having a "make-over" done.
Then professionals help you to see what colors work for you. In fact,
3 of us, all with different coloring and "styles" went at the same
time. It was a lot of fun and we all ended up with colors that we
    wouldn't have thought of using.

    Polly

ps I chose Merle Norman because my dermatologist recommended it. If I
hadn't started having problems with sensitive skin, I'd be at the
Shesido counter. They have the BEST eye shadow colors!

Thanks for the tip Polly! I did something like that

The woman was into using a lot of heavy dark shadows on
my eyes and although she said they were my colors, I
thought they looked horrible. I'd like to find somebody

Well, I'm one of those who wears lipstick every day at
work. I'm very pale, and I think lipstick adds a little
life to my face...After years of smudgy, waxy sticks, I
am glad that Cover Girl has come out with Lip Advance (is
this where I'm supposed to say that I'm not endorsing the
company and I don't know anyone who works there??), so far
they are the only ones who have it. It's a powder that you
put on your lips with a sponge applictor, then use a small
brush to cover it with a clear gloss (if you wish, or leave
it matte). Powder, gloss, and brush/applicator are all in a
neat little compact (with mirror, of course). It literally
does stay on all day, through coffee, lunch, etc! I touch
it up once, maybe, but I'm amazed at how well it lasts...

Well, anyways, it comes in lots of colors, coded as to cool,
warm or nuetral for those who have had `their colors done'.

My lips are naturally quite dark, so for every day I don't have
much need to wear lipstick. I do normally wear a lip gloss in the
summer (my current one is gloss/sunscreen from Mark Kay -- is
that politically incorrect or what? But a good friend was selling
it and I put friendship above politics), and lip balm in the
winter. I use Old Faithful brand lip balm, containing lanolin,
safflower oil, beeswax, lecithin, wintergreen oil, Paba, and
nothing else, made in Bozeman, Montana. My mother mails me a
supply if I run out between trips home. If I'm not carrying a
purse, it gets tucked into my jeans pocket.

If the occasion calls for it (standards meetings, presentations,
going out to dinner) I will wear anything from lipstick (Poppy
this year) and eyeshadow (cocoa, buff, and gold) to full makeup.
I own a full set of current fashionable colors and have recently
learned how to apply them. If I am wearing makeup, I'll be
carrying it, but I don't carry it just in case. Those of you who
have known me for a while will recognize this as new behavior :)

I wouldn't go without it. I love color, in my clothes and my makeup.
Right now I'm wearing Certainly Red by Revlon. Revlon seems to be the
best buy for the money and has somewhat good staying power although I
must have reapplied at least 3 times already today. And then blot.
You must blot to get the matte look.

I do it in restaurants too. Some people think it's tacky but I think
if you do it with the right flair some may even think it's sexy. Take
your time, outline your lips, kiss the napkin, and leave it for the
    waiter or waitress.

Sometimes I think maybe if I found just the right shade my life would
be perfect. :-) Really sometime's the right shade with what I'm
wearing makes my day. The little things make me happy, I guess.

Colors that are in my desk and pocketbook right now:

    Love That Red
    Certainly Red
    Burnt Sienna
    Copperglaze Wine
    Garnet Lame
    Raisin

	I carry both, now!!!!

I can't tell you how many times I've used that nifty little scissors on my
(freebie from Apple Comp -shhhhh-) pocketknife.

It's hard for me to believe that I actually have 3 lipsticks in my -gasp-
makeup bag in my purse. Who woulda thunk it, even a year ago. I guess that's
what being on the prowl does to you.

I started out with a misty mauve shade that went with everything and was barely
there so when I forgot to reapply it, it wouldn't look funny. But now...

			give me RED.

When I'm putting those last minute touches on in the morning I feel like I
look better after I apply lipstick. I guess the extra color really does
make a difference. I even check it during the day to make sure it's on. So
far I like Avon long lasting the best (Lancome bled on me) but I'm open for
other long lasting suggestions.

Color me beautiful as the saying goes. ;-) (My Stepmom would be proud)

Talking of Lipstick reminded me of this (it happened about 7-8 years
    ago)

I was lying in bed trying to get to sleep but my nose was really
bunged up with the cold, so I reached over to my bedside cabinet
and picked up my vicks inhaler (you know one of those finger like
things you stick up your nose and breathe in) and started to inhale
it deeply. Lying back I realised that it just didn't seem to be
working so I decided to go down to the bathroom and blow my nose.

AAAAAAAaarrrrggghhh on putting when I looked in the bathroom mirror
you guessed it...... I had stuck my lipstick up my nose by mistake
and had two burgundy rings around my nostrils.

Bet your lipsticked (lipstuck?) nostrils presented quite a sight!

This is a little off topic, but it reminds me of how I was cured of
chewing on pens and pencils....One day I saw my boss absently sticking
his up his nose!!!!!!!1 I nearly died!

I don't war lipstick because I have very dark, red lips (people
regularly ask me if I am wearing lipstick) so I don't need it, and I
hate the greasy waxy feel on my lips.

I also don't like kissing women with lipstick on for the same reason.

I don't understand the whole concept of makeup personally.

However, I have some petroleum free chapstick around for the winter
(which I am not addicted to - close friends can attest to the fact that
I, in fact, never put on any before noon).

Now, I have been known to wear a clown face on occasion. Which has a
completely white face, black lines around the eyes, blue on the cheeks,
red nose, and a bright red exaggerarted lips (and big red Cons and a
funny hat). It's interesting to put on clown face and see what
happens! Clown face and clown clothes seem to help one get into the
clown spirit...

When I first read the title of this note I started to reply "no"
then I thought, "maybe I do have a lipstick in my purse" so I looked
inside and low and behold, there was a lipstick in there. Don't
ask me why, the last time I remember wearing lipstick was at my
boyfriend's brother's wedding and that was a year ago last August.

    Especially in winter!

I even remember when Chapstick came "personalized" with a little
card-suit or animal-shaped semi-unique:-) jobbie on each one, so you
could tell more easily which was "yours." And this in the pre-iconic
    days, even!

Yup, I wear it occassionally. Mostly i wear gloss. When I go outside
for a walk or when they are chapped I wear a lip-protector with
sunscreen. I put nightcream on them at night to prevent chapping. I
use all Mary Kay products and have for 11 years. I like the service!

I think there's one in the bottom of my purse; but I don't remember the
last time I used it. I do keep a chapstick in my coat pocket, and in
    the truck though.
