194.0. "Official "Buyout Package" Goodbye Note" by FDCV01::ROSS () Mon Jun 11 1990 17:52

Within the last few weeks, there have been various notes/replies
in which the authors have indicated that they've been "offered
the Buyout Package and are taking it."

I know -WN- has an official sign-out note (I think there's one in
this Version) - generally for those noters who are getting too busy
with "real work" to continue noting, or who are getting tired of the
endless arguments, or who otherwise generally just need a break.

What I'd like is for this Note to be the repository of replies for
those who have been offered the Package and are taking it.

Possibly, we can put in what will be our last day here, and
what we are planning on doing in our next life.

I've decided to take the Package. It wasn't much of a decision,
actually. I knew I wanted it, even before it was offered.

June 29 will be my last day.

I know for sure I'll be taking the whole summer off, and probably
quite a few months after that.

In my next life, I don't have the foggiest, except I'd rather not
get back into the Corporate atmosphere.

Perhaps a little business of my own...........

Rumor also has it that I'll be doing a high kick out the
door on the 29th of this month. And wouldn't you know it?
The rumors are right. It's time for me to put my full
energies into composing, recording, and audio/video production
(the studio is being upgraded to 16-track this summer). In
my free time, I plan to follow my hobbies of collecting rare
Lincoln head pennies and devising new ways of torturing my
    cat.

Those of unsound mind can contact me thusly:

    	Sudbury, MA 01776-2713

    	(508) 443-4036

Ok, ok. So it'll still get there if you don't put the stuff on
about the studio. But, hey. . .this is *my* middle-age crisis,
dammit, and I'm entitled to these little indulgences.

Peggy, although we have not met, I will miss you terribly. You're
writings in here, on the Goddess have given much food for thought and
have encouraged me to seek out works on this subject that has become
very important to me. It has helped me to confirm what I always new was
true in my heart. That the is a Deity and that the feminie aspect is so
very strong in everything in the universe.
I will miss the little sayings that you create at the end of your
notes. They are charming, witty, extremely intelligent, and always
germaine to the topic at hand. Hey, maybe we could collect them into a
book. The wit and true wisdom of Peggy Leedberg :-)

"Buyout" in the US is being called "rightsizing" in the UK.

I have been rightsized, and will be leaving Digital this Friday. In
many ways I will be happy to leave. I don't like a lot of what I'm
seeing around me - I feel that the Digital I have known and loved over
the past four years has almost disappeared. Its culture, at least here
in the UK, and, of course, in my humble opinion, bears little
relationship to the "espoused" cultural values of the company. It is
the espoused values that I hold so dear, and I truely mourn their
    passing.

I have learnt so much from my time with Digital. Though mainly a
read-only noter of woman-notes, I have learnt so much from the
discussion here. This conference is one of the things I will miss most.

Partly because of my involvement in this conference, my awareness of
many feminist issues have been raised. I am proud that I am a feminist.

On leaving Digital I will be setting up on my own in consultancy in the
areas of women at work, valuing differences, etc etc. Perhaps one day
we will shatter the glass ceiling. Or perhaps many of us will decide
to leave that particular ceiling alone, and move sideways to a place
where we can aim for the stars, and reach them, or at least feel
fulfilled and empowered in our attempts.

If I'd stayed with DEC, I'd have carried on supporting women in
Digital. As it is, I will go on supporting women and their causes in
    the larger arena.

Take care, all of you. You are all special people. I owe so much to so
many of you. It is partly through the valuing of differences that is
the core of this file that I am learning to really value myself. And
now that I have that gift, I can share it with others.

Thank you all, and au revoir...

This Friday will be my last day at DEC. I will be setting up
a small press and publishing material about Women and Thealogy
and Rituals and goddesses and such. I have always wanted to
be a starving poet and it looks as though I will get a chance
to do just that. I picked up my IBM PC clone on Saturday and
have left a lot of stuff behind.

I will also be travelling across the US over the next year
and would like to meet with groups of women (or women and men)
or even individual women who are involved in wicca, or ritual
	or goddess stuff.

From 15 December until 8 January I will be on vacation (I am
coming back for the NOW meeting in Chelmsford where Evelyn
Murphy is speaking). I will be visiting Kansas City and Atlanta
	this trip.

I have enough =wn= readers who will keep me up to date on what
is happening here, that I may be invisible but the spirit will
	remain.

Over the years there have been a lot of things that I have wanted
to say and never did and now I probably never will, but I would
like to take this opportunity to thank the mods (present and past)
and the many, many women and men who have fought to keep this
conference alive and on target. It is a shame that so much sh*t
has to happen here - remember though - this conference is one of
the most positive signs for women in the company (scary isn't it).
This space is worth all the effort, it turns more people into
feminist than we could ever hope.

	Say goodnight peg

194.37I may be gone soonCSG002::PWHITEJust lookin' for a homeMon Dec 10 1990 18:4936
I have been offered "the package" and must make the decision
before December 27. Actually, because of holidays, I'll be
making the mental decision sooner. I do not expect that anyone
will be here to offer me a job December 26-28.

I am leaning toward taking the money. The only jobs I have been
offered in the past 3 months have been non-management at a lower
level than my present job. If I turn down the money, I must
take the next offer, even one level lower. Management is what I
do, and I worked too hard in my 22 years here to go to a job where
I can't get a raise for more than 2 years, because my present
salary is above the maximum for that job.

I have always had an idea of working in some position of empowering
women, running women's support groups, or related work. I have a lot
of experience in Digital and outside that is relevant, and that gives
me confidence. Right now I am most interested in providing
consulting and information for people who are becoming responsible
for older relatives. (Not specifically a women's issue, but usually)

My experiences finding help for my mother show that there is a
tremendous need. Corporations are beginning to look for resources
that they can offer to employees through a EAP or similar programs.
They are beginning to realize the hours that an employee spends just
finding out what housing and services are available. I am looking
into possibilities of starting my own business, or joining a small
consulting firm to create this program and market it to corporations.

It is my (limited) experience that human services professionals
are often not good at budgeting, planning, and other management
basics. My management experience would be a major asset to some
    consulting companies.

I'll post another note when I decide.

    Peggy,

Even though our opinions on all the issues of the day are nearly always
exact opposites, we've been good friends for nearly a decade. I'm sure
that there is some deeper meaning in that, but you are the literary one
and I'm the engineer, so when you figure it out, let me know what it means,
    OK?

Seriously, though, I'm going to miss regular "lizarding" with you at May
Ling's Lounge, and it's going to be strange when I go to forward
interesting e-mail to my friends, and then realize you are no longer on
    the net.

Finally, no matter where you go, and who you talk to, always remember
YOU AND I DON'T HAVE ACCENTS! (It's those people that pronounce their
Rs and forget to tack them on to words that end in A that have the
accents. You'd think that if they are going to live in New England that
they'd at least learn the language :-) )

    Take care Peggy,
