968.0. "Will miss this file" by RAB::HEFFERNAN (Juggling Fool) Tue Aug 13 1991 15:24

Well, this will be the first (and will be the last note) I've ever
started all the years I've been hanging out here!

August 21 is my last day at DEC. I'm going to start school full-time
in the fall at Lesley College for a Master's in Elementary School
education. I'm really looking forward to school and getting my own
class! But I'll really miss all my notes friends especially from this
file. I'd have to say that this file (despite all the rough spots)
has been my favorite place to hang out and feels the most like home.
I've met so many wonderful people through this file. It's really been
a wonderful gift.

So many exciting changes are happening for me right now I guess I have
to give some things up to make room for new stuff. Digital and my
engineering career is one of those things. But I'll remember this
files and all the good folks in it and continue to see some of you I
hope.

I've learned a lot here too, a real lot, from listening to woman's
voices. It's been really incredable to hear what women have to say.

Laura Ervin is going to post a note when she gets back from the
Michigan Women's Fest about a party she is being kind enough to host to
help me celebrate my new career direction. I'll really look forward
to that. It's going to be on Sunday, September 15.

So I wish you all the best in your lives. Peace and happiness to you
all. I'm starting to get choked up writing this and I can't decide if
I want to laugh or cry so I'll stop now!

peace and hugs,
john

John, I'm so happy I was able to meet you at the =wn= party,
and to watch your juggling talents, and to communicate with
you off-line, and to revel in the bright energy you radiate.

All those lucky children . . . wishing you the *very* best!

Good luck John, in all your future endeavors. Maybe you'll have my
grandchildren in a class some day. If so, I'll have to have them make
you juggle. I didn't get to meet you at tyhe -wn- party, but I saw you
perform. Your talents are wonderful and your caring soul just adds to
it all. You will be and are a great teacher, just by your actions.
Again good luck and bless you in all future endeavors.

Sounds like you're moving into doing_what_you_really_want_to_do.

The fact that your choice is teaching means tomorrows' students will
probably benifit from *wn* (whether or not you realize it).

Best wishes,,and make sure you carry along some of the warmth,
    compassion,and yeah,,even the arguments from here,,your students
will be the better for it.

Doug (I feel like I know *all* of you,,even though I'm kinda
    isolated down here in Hotlanta)

I'm truly impressed, John. Certainly you'll be missed around and
    about.

    I probably shouldn't say this, but ... oh hecky-darn ...

When I read your note, I immediately flashed on a vision of you sitting
in front of a room full of 7-year-olds, playing a guitar, and leading a
    rousing chorus of "it's only a wee-wee" ...

    Best regards,

This is probably one of the better things to happen to el-ed. You can teach them
how to juggle both balls and computers! Best of luck and don't forget the BITNET
liesl

p.s. I've made a radical career change before, its scary but also very exciting.
(and you'll get summers off!)

My mom's youngest brother went thru teaching school on a program
where, in return for tuition, he agreed to work in an inner-city
school for a certain time. That was over 20 years ago. He's still
commuting 80+ miles a day to teach in the same school. *Teachers
who love their work* are the future to a lot of kids who have a
hard time seeing past the moment. My hat is off to them all.

    John,

It sounds like a heaven for you. I think it will be wonderful for you,
your career, your life, and all the kids who will be taught by you.
When you're a kid, a good adult is a blessing.

Hey John. Sorry to see you go, but I certainly give
you credit for having the courage of your convictions!

Best of luck to you.
