I *want* to buy LP's and tape them to listen to in the car.
(Delete) CD's and phooey on buying casettes, I don't have a
dual cassete deck, so I can't make tapes the way I like them.
I don't want to buy more gear, I don't like walking into a
'record store' with no (unprintable) RECORDS!!

"Call me a relic call me what you will
Say I'm old-fashioned say I'm over the hill..."

Sigh. Now I'm quoting Seeger, and I don't even _like_ the guy...

I hate call-waiting. It's just a new way to be rude on the phone.

An alternate interpretation, it's just a way for AT&T to make more
money on long-distance calls. ("hold on, okay!"click! tick tick tick
    goes the l-d $meter. Grrrrrr, go I.)
572.5NOATAK::BLAZEKcross my heart with silverFri Dec 07 1990 15:4620

I agree, Dana. I refuse to be forced into purchasing CDs. I like
LPs better. I like the look of them and the feel of them and the
size of them. I like taping them.

My preference for grungy music is meant to be heard on albums. My
love of old bohemian record stores are precisely that -- *record*
stores. The sentimentality is irreplaceable. You just can't put
the Velvet Underground or Birthday Party on CD.

In addition to not owning, nor knowing how to operate, a CD player,
I also do not own a microwave, answering machine, or home computer,
and if there's anything else modern that everyone has that I don't,
I'm so removed that I'm not even aware of it.

Oh yeah, I also prefer old cars, such as old Chevy's and Fords from
    the 50's.

I don't own a CD player, or an answering machine, or a home computer, I
also hate call waiting, I don't have cable TV, and my roommate owns a
microwave but I never use it because it seems like too much trouble.

    VINYL FOREVER!!!!!!!

As one who grew up with vinyl, I love the way a piece of vinyl feels,
    and I love cover art.

Nowadays, many of the independent label are issuing colored vinyl which
    is way cool.

And I just shelled out $15 for an imported copy of an album that was
    only released on CD domestically.

Oh, is this my kind of note!

First, I agree with Sara about call-waiting -- rude and tacky,
with *some* exceptions (for my parents, anyway (-: ). My parents
have recently weened the last teenage kids who would spend *hours*
on the phone with my Dad missing important business calls. Much
cheaper for them to get call-waiting than a second phone.

You know you're not a 90s kind of person when ...

You refuse to own a television set, let alone a VCR or big screen
(yup, no TV in my house!).

You refuse to buy, or even *look at*, neon yellow, pink, and
green ski suits - barf! (Grey/blue wool/pile is just fine with
    me, thanks.)

You think 'Nintendo' is some kind of martial art.

You're not sure who the Nelson twins are or why some womannoters
act like they'd walk off the end of the earth for them. (I mean,
they're just a couple of guys, right?)

You think men, in general, look better with beards than without.

When you still have pulse dialling on the phone and no bells or
    whistles.

When your answering machine consists of the five-year-old answering the
phone with "hello? mommy doesn't talk to phone solicitors or pond
    scum. Are you a friend?"

No, no, no, Ellen, didn't you know? Beards are Back In. Clean-shaven
went out with the 80's...the 90's are the decade of very short,
neatly-trimmed Yuppie beards. All the boomer's have 'em. (The male
    ones, anyway.)

572.23No hi-tech gadgetsCSG002::PWHITEJust lookin' for a homeMon Dec 10 1990 18:2921
I dice vegetables with a knife and cutting board. Both
are hardware store standard issue, not Japanese or French
chef. I beat eggs with an eggbeater - one of those
mechanical devices with a little handle that you crank to
make the beaters go round. Your grandmother probably had
    one.

I refer to the black hi-tech components in the living room
as my "radio", or my "record player", depending on which
function I intend to use. That's not even 80's!!

I push buttons on devices to make them go on and off. The
remote controls that came with the devices don't work, and I
don't get them fixed. I open the garage doors manually. I turn
the thermostat down every night and turn it up again when I get
up. My only burglar alarm is a 135 pound dog - and neighbors who
    are around all day.

When you plan on keeping a car well past 2 years.

You don't have, nor really want, a terminal at home.

you've never seen "the Simpsons", and you don't care
you hate the one episode you've ever seen of "thirtysomething"

You think you're getting a busy signal instead of a dial tone when you
pick up your phone to make a call and Voicemail signals that you have a
message (actually this was my sister-in-law, but could easily have been
    me in the same circumstances)

I'll never be a person of the nineties because of a high resistance
to trendiness.... I like what I like.

Many famous T.V. shows and movies have come and gone, and I've never
seen them. And, don't care. I do like call-waiting, it is extremely
practical, not rude. Answering machines have been a way of life out
here for years and years; I get angry when people don't have them.

I love music, though, and I will soon be forced into that C.D. purchase
    as the vinyl disappears......
