181.0. "Party! Inner Visions - June 29 - Nashua" by TLE::D_CARROLL (The more you know the better it gets) Wed Jun 06 1990 18:00

Well. It's summer. And time for another party. Only this one has a
twist.

It's an * Inner Visions * party
(see womannotes-v2 #911 and womannotes-v3 #92)

We encourage you to come as some alternative facet or slightly
whimsical version of yourself. If you're not quite comfortable going
full-tilt, try a toned-down version. Or just arrive wearing a fashion
or style of dress you've always wanted to, but never found the right
situation for. The keyword is: relax and enjoy. And this is
womannotes' first real "theme party", so please indulge us with your
eccentricities, however minor or major!

The party will be held the evening of Friday, June 29th, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Your hosts for the evening include Diana Carroll, Jody Bobbitt, and
Doug Gordon, who has kindly volunteered his new domicile for our
commingling. He lives in Nashua, and can provide crash space (BYO
sleeping bag) for those who would prefer not to drive home. In
addition, please note there aren't vast quantities of furniture there,
so if you want to be sure to have a non-floor seat you could bring a
folding chair or such like. For those with allergies, the house
is pet-free. And when it comes to food fixing, his home comes equipped
with stove, oven, microwave, and grill.

Please sign in here or send mail to D! Carroll, and you don't necessarily
have to disclose who or what you'll be arriving as. Heck. Feel free to
surprise us! And it'll kind of be a pot-luck gathering, so in your mail
or sign-in please mention what kind of food or drink you would like to
bring. SO's, friends, and casual acquaintances are welcome, but
children are discouraged (not forbidden, just discouraged - the house
is not child-resistant and some of the "inner visions" may not sit
well with children...particularly if they're scary). In addition,
since people will be coming as they aren't (!), if anyone arrives
wielding a camera, please be sensitive to those who do not wish their
photograph taken....

Directions will be sent to those who sign in or send mail to D!
at TLE::D_CARROLL

L@@king forward to a most enjoyable evening.....

I'll be there too - and not dressed up as a teenage mutant ninja
    turtle, either!

I dress as my inner vision (plus glasses) most of the time, and
my favorite "alternate facet" involves clothes that are very warm -
more appropriate for late fall or winter (geesh, of all possible
times of year, did you have to hold the party practially in July?)...
so my "costume" is up in the air. If it comes down before the end
of the month, I might actually dress as something other than my
    inner vision (plus glasses).

In the spirit of a halloween-esque party, I may bring pumpkin
bread. Then again, maybe I'll dress up as a fish and bring fish
    food ;-).

Here's the rsvp list so far. If you aren't on the list and should be, mea
culpa, send me mail. If you aren't on the list and want to be, send me mail
or post here.

We'll be sending directions to those on the rsvp list sometime next week.

If you need a place to crash, let me know, as a couple of people have
volunteered space.

Let us know what you're bringing to the party so that we can end up with
a balanced selection. (Balanced, of course, has nothing to do with
*healthy* :-) We just don't want to end up with 13 pans of brownies.
Or, maybe we do...)

I'm rather amused by the last attendance statistics that D!
    mentioned to me..

The current ratio of women to men is about 4 to 1 at her last
    count.

Now most FGD parties tend to run only a slight female majority
and one, the February party that was held in bad weather actually
    had more men than women.

I was thinking that this must mean that many more women than
men are willing to go to a party and dress in some fashion that
shows their inner vision of themself.

But perhaps this may be due to a misunderstanding..

I exchanged mail with one man who writes in =wn= occasionally
and has been to two parties (at least) who thought this was
    a 'valuing differences' party...

*not* the same thing at all..

I found this all rather amusing..

Just for the record, I'd prefer my nametag to read WAYLAY::GORDON

outside of ZK.

You are, of course, welcome to bring friends. (I'm sacrificing chickens
to the weather dieties, but I think we'll all fit even if we can't use the
deck.)

If I have time, I'll make calzone. I am, however, struggling to get
the interior painted and all the furniture out of the family room before
the party, so cooking might be low on the list.

Directions are traditionally sent out the last day or so before
a party. This allows a maximum number of people to be reached
    at one time..

other wise the host/hostess has to keep sending follow ups
to those who sign in later.

Well if I knew what my inner vision was I'd sign up for
	this party :-(.

I used to fantasize about being a professional basketball
player, but that's not it anymore.

If I think up something, _and_ I get up the courage to
invite a very interesting person I met on the boat to
Provincetown (he gave me his number and told me to call
him situation), count on me and 2 guests.

	Suggestions are welcome ;-).

Well, I get 30/44 * 100 = 68.18 % women. This is not women-only
party nor was it announced as such.

But in any case, I was curious why it mattered if 99% of the people
that signed up were women. Could you tell me more about what your

I am happy to announce that a mystery guest will be coming to the party with

Greater Nashua (can you say airplane?).

S/he is looking forward to meeting some old friends.

For those who wish to preserve their "Inner Vision" for posterity, I plan to
bring two cameras - a normal 35 mm and a Polaroid, for those who don't trust
me with the negatives or don't want to wait for me to send them pictures.
I'll take pictures of anyone who wants to remember their costume (since the
Polaroid film is really expensive I'll ask for some small amount of money
from those who want Polaroids.)

Not to worry though, I will *not* be taking general pictures, and will not
take a picture of anyone who doesn't ask to be photographed (or at least
agree to be photographed.) I expect some people's inner visions will be
something they wouldn't want to whole world to see them in, so I won't
do any nonconsensual photo-taking. I would suggest that anyone else bringing
a camera abide by similar constraints.

It would be nice to get a group photo though of the Inner Visions for
the (hypothetical) =wn= family album, but there will be no pressure to
appear in it.

{Notes: ZK:: is the designated site pasthru server. If you aren't having
any luck with that, try LOWELL::, but LOWELL is really dragging lately. Those
of you local to ZK area 61 need only send directly to WAYLAY::MAP. The "CC:"
prompt may, or may not appear depending on you MAIL settings and the version
of VMS you use.  Case of the word "MAP" in the subject line is not important.}

The WAYLAY Map Server will mail you back a PostScript file (about
235 blocks.) EXTRACT/NOHEAD from MAIL, and print it on your fovorite PS
queue. The map server uses NMAIL, so response might not be immediate, but
if you haven't received a reply in a couple of hours, let me know.

Yes, what an amazingly successful party. I was very nervous (first party

worked.

The Inner Visions were spectacular. i don't think I managed to get a picture

off.

Don't worry, Jody, I have the guest list and I'll enter a "who came" note
as soon as I have time.

Gale, Charles changed three times - arrived in a tux, complete with rosebud
but minus the champagne. Then into a tight smooth lycra look and sunglasses
with flashing LED's, and then (ah!) leather! mmm :-9

No Charles doesn't mind you talking about him in the third person. :-)

I had a WONDERFUL time. Perhaps it was all those people who thought I looked
so nice and were willing to tell me so. That's definitely a plus. Thanks
everyone!

I want pictures of everyone who's willing to let me have them. D! I'll be happy
to pay for copies, I'll even do the work if you want. In return, I'm happy to
let anyone who wants have pictures of my visions.

Some of the high points of the party:

Listening to Jody and D! talk about the expression on the face
of the doorman of the Tara when they walked in... I can well
imagine! I wonder what he thought when they walked out again
with this tall guy in formal evening wear... :-)

Watching John juggle. He's so good at it and obviously has so
much fun with it. A delight!

Listening to Maggie on the banjo! I didn't know you could do that!

Seeing Tony Purmal in Nashua. How come I never see you at home?

Getting to see some of the people I like in this file who don't
usually go to FGD parties! Thanks, it was VERY nice!

Seeing Rita again! What a GREAT vision. Was that hunk part of the
vision or does he have independent existence?

Seeing all those happy people looking like they'd LIKE to look.

	<Don't dream it - be it.>

Things I didn't like:

	Having to go home!

Seeing Steve Mallett's last day at DEC.

Not being able to figure out how to pack my eggshell thin crystal
	champagne flute(s).

Not getting my WONDERFUL purple silk tuxedo shirt in time.

Not seeing all the OTHER people I would have liked to have seen.
	(Next time for sure!)

Not taking any pictures. <please can I have some, please D!?>

	Still high.

    Charles,

I think most of the party participants are still 'high' have
you noticed how quiet this note has been?

    and in re costumes/visions

I am amazed that no one yet has even referred to how nice
Ann Broomhead looked in light blue spandex

how about some other people talk about what they wore
or what other people wore that they liked..

    and D! and Jody...

    where's that attendance list?

    :-)

This is who actually came to the party...minus one person who's name was
written on the sign-up shet but so smeared by (I think) beer that I
couldn't read her name (sorry bout that.)

Much fun was had by all (I think/hope)! :-)

    PHOOEEY!!!

I really, *really* wanted to be there. I had everything all set to be
    there. (Thank you Ann.)

But I've been trying to clear up some kind of an intestinal bug for two
weeks now - the doctor put me back on the medication that had caused
dizziness and blurred vision and put me to sleep - and trying to go to
a party an hour+ away from home didn't seem like a real great idea.
Instead I went home early and fell asleep..........

I swear that there is a gremlin whose sole responsibility is to make
sure that I don't make it to =wn= parties.

that hunk (wally) has independent existence....i met the two of them
(rita and wally) at Noreascon last summer....

I want pictures of everyone who's willing to let me have them. D! I'll be happy
to pay for copies, I'll even do the work if you want. In return, I'm happy to
let anyone who wants have pictures of my visions.

anybody who would like pictures of my vision is free to have them
also....i just love dressing up (or down, as the case may be) and
    having my picture taken.

Yup, he does have independent existence (although that does not preclude
his being part of the vision ;-) He just finished with a seven-year
career as a prize-winning Army journalist, and will be reporting for
one of the GMA newspapers as soon as he decides which one to work for.
Beauty, brains, and he can cook, too :-) What with all the spikes,
he's a bit prickly on the outside, but inside he is a bona fide
marshmallow. (Don't tell him I told you, ok?)

My thanks to the host and to the organizers for having the foresight to
schedule the party to coincide my business trip. My inner vision
would have been just cause for a strip search at the border so it
    stayed home.

Personal highlights of the evening include:

being asked if I was related to Charles. (must be the hair)

	being handcuffed to Kath.

getting a free guitar lesson from Steve Mallett.

being told that Leonardo's the one with the swords, not Raphael.

	getting a hug from Bonnie.

the best reaction I got all night had to be when I got home.

Rick looked up when I walked in and, completely dead-pan, said 'oh good god'

the star-mite/star-child left her bow and quiver at home [it just doesn't do
to tote around sharp pointy objects in crowds] which sort of made it
necessary for her to explain why the one arm was bare and why the opposite
ear carried no danglies.

I was intensely jealous of Mel's mask and Charles' hair [even when mine was
that long, it was never that magnificent]

Oh yeah, Marge (12.111) , thanks for reminding me, I meant to post a note in
here that I got pix back from the party, and have sent copies of pictures to
the people they are of, through interoffice mail. Which means yours (pl.) will
take anywhere from 2 days to a few years. This is the first batch - there are a
few on the next roll, which I sent in for developping yesterday and should be
back on Friday or so.

I have copies at my desk, if anyone want to see them feel free to drop
by my office, right next to pole OB.1 in ZK2-3. When and if we ever get
a =wn= Family Album going, I'll put the pix of those who are willing in
there.

Now let's see ... The A$ hit US81c yesterday and they reckon it will
keep going. I'll make my donation in a couple of weeks :-). I really
would like to make a donation as I am one of the people who really
wants to see this album but the logistics of it isn't easy. Let's say
the going rate would be US$10. That costs me A$12.50. The the bank
charges me A$7 for the international draft - that's $19.50! Still less
than 20 bucks is a good price to pay for the entertainment that the
    album should provide.
