The parties announced in this file will be open to all members of
the womannotes community. From time to time however, we may wish
to hold woman-only gatherings*. Those parties will be announced by
VAXmail; to that end, Liz Augustine and I keep a distribution list
of those women who would like to be notified of these events. If
you'd like to be added to or removed from the list, please contact
    me at ULTRA::ZURKO.

*If community members would like to hold men-only gatherings, feel
free to make a similar announcement.

	Hear ye, Hear ye!

Let it be known to all that when the conversation at the
Californian-welcoming party turned to that which could be
interpreted as demeaning to men, that one PEGGY LEEDBERG
abruptly rose, chastized us women for taking part in such
conversation, and exited with ketchup bottle in hand.

	Ms. Leedberg, we stand corrected.

Also for the record are the following responses to the latest
rumor going around about some of the men in attendance:
(who started this rumor was not revealed)...

Rumor: The "politically correct" men in =wn= only say those
-----	things so that they will get laid.

	Answers:
        -------

[Charles] Hey, it works for me.

[John Heffernan] I'm going to say a lot of PC things tonight.

	[DougO]      {gosh, I just can't remember his response .... :-}

[Joe White] {wasn't there, but did make the list of those duly
		      accused.  Joe, what do you say? :-}

All in all, I found the evening most enjoyable. I liked the
room we were in -- there was lots of space to move around and
mingle. It was heartwarming to watch everyone communing with
each other. It must be cuz it's summertime - everyone had an
extra sparkle about them. Ann Broomhead, I hope your camera
	captured that!

Margaret Russel, you were right -- polyandry would have been
the only solution :-). I just wanted to take them all home
	and ... umm... [sigh]...

Nancy's been leaving me off her lists for a while now. I'm not
sure if I should be offended, or realize that she's protecting me.
As a scientist, I asked the only question with a quantifiable
answer: not "why do they say PC things?", but "Does it work?"

Great party, and a good warm up for tommorow night.

Tim, when asked, "Are you a feminist man just to get laid?",
obligingly replied with the line he'd heard at the dinner:

"Laid by whom? Other feminist men? Oh! By feminist women.
    [Then,] of course."

Well, my answer to the question would be something along the lines
of, "Well, sure, though it doesn't seem to have worked all that
    well for me." :-)

And, of course, there are a lot less noble things that men do just
    to get laid.

Nancy recorded my replies almost exactly, but here's what I REALLY
    said.

Q: "Is it true that the 'sensitive' men in =WN= only say the
things they do in order to get laid?"
Me:	"But of course. [longish pause] By each other!" (Said with
    		eyebrows raised archly.)

[Vile sexist multiple-entendre follows form feed.]

and if you think I'm kidding... try me! :-) Besides, anyone who's slept
with one knows that if you're trying to bed a feminist, the most important
organ is your tongue - and a sensitive one at that... What I mean is that
it's important to establish sensitive communication first, yeah, that's
what I mean! Yep yep yep. ;-) I certainly wasn't trying to imply anything
about "french kissing", much less activities which are still illegal in
places DEC does business. Nope nope nope.

    I'm so sensitive I can't m*st*rb*t* unless I talk to myself first.

Charles, thats only considered vile by the same folks who appreciate
    that its illegal. ;-).

I counted twenty folks at the dinner Wednesday, maybe I can remember
all the names....justme jacqi Gardener, Amos Hamburger, Joyce Lamotte,
Lorna StHilaire, Lisa Gassaway, Jonathan Ludgate, Tim (friend of Ann B),
Ellen Gugel, Bonnie Reinke, Mary Dougherty (probably misspelled, sorry),
Pam Smith, Doug Olson, Peggy Leedberg, Ann Broomhead, Charles Haynes,
D!ana Carroll, Barbara Miner, David Wittenberg, Nancy Bittle, and John
Heffernan. Well, that's 20, anyway, hope I didn't miss anyone.

Does one say PC things only to get laid? Spare me from idiotic
premises, though I wasn't so ill-mannered as to say so to the people
who posed me this question. I gave what Witt called a suitably squishy
answer, indicating that empathy to individuals and their concerns
enhances my relationships enormously ;-). 'Sounds like a "yes" to me',
    Witt said.

I had a wonderful time both at the dinner last Wednesday and the party
last Friday, thanks to organizers and contributors. I brought Liesl's
copies of Steve Lionel's and Hugh Thomas' pictures of the May H-R party
in Colorado Springs, featuring Liesl, Carla Blazek, Kathy Gallup,
Carol, Evan, and Shelley DuBois, PJ and Vivian Sparrow, Jerry Gortmaker,
Steve Lionel, Hugh Thomas, Dale Mynott, Skip Hogge, Abigail Davies,
Liesl's horse, Liesl's dog, Mike Zarlenga, Mike Valenza, Terza Zane,
Nanci Van Fleet (did I spell that wrong?) and probably another couple
of folks I can't remember, sorry. The pictures made the rounds many,
many times, at both gatherings. I also had pictures Robin Aageson
loaned me, which she took at an Indigo Girls concert six months ago.
They were also appreciated...thanks, Robin and Liesl! And Ann
Broomhead had pictures from Inner Visions on Wednesday night, and D!
brought hers out Friday night (from Inner Visions)...it was great fun.

Oh, Dan D'eramo was in Liesl's pictures, too ;-).

There are three parties coming up in the next few weeks for
the womannotes community. For those who aren't aware of them
or have forgotten the details I'm going to summarize things here.

    1. Note 624 Happy Hour at the Rusty Scupper on January 23rd. A chance
to meet out of town noter Andrea Abraham.

    2. Note 636 Happy Hour at the Rusty Scupper on January 25th. A chance
to meet out of town noter Carla Blazek.

    3. Note 615 pot-luck(?) dinner at Laura Ervin's in Stow before a
concert by Justine and Dale at the UU church.

Hope we get a good turn out at all the events.

    Dan,

I always think of the Scupper as being on 119, but I think the
two roads run together at that point. It has been a long time
    since I lived around there.

If you are coming on rte 495 you would take the rte 119 Littleton
Common (I think it also says Groton) exit. This is the second
one past rte 2 if you are coming from the south or west as I am.

Getting off 495 you turn left or south towards the center of
    Littleton.

Continue on 119 through the trafffic light, about 10 minutes drive
to the south to Nagog woods shopping mall. The Rusty Scupper is
in the mall to the right.

There are back ways to 119 for those coming up from Maynard so
they need not have to go out to 495 but it has been much too
long for me to remember properly.
