81.0. "What do you VALUE in people as individuals?" by NEXUS::CONLON () Fri Jul 29 1988 01:45

What would you like to be valued for the most (as an individual?)
In other words, what do you like best about yourself (that cannot
be measured in terms of income or looks, etc.)

If modesty prevents you from answering about yourself, then
how about what you find of value in others?

In our culture, it seems that (too often) people are valued
for things like how much money they make, or their breast size,
or the amount of hair remaining on the tops of their heads (or
some other such relatively meaningless criteria.)

At a deeper level, there must be something that each of us
values about people that is so much more significant (ultimately)
-- that things like money, looks, etc. *pale* in comparison
    	to those other qualities.

I'm wondering what some of those more significant things might
be to the members of the womannotes community.

I value honesty and trustworthiness in all people most of all.
I feel that I possess these qualities and, therefore, expect
    it in others.

I would like people to value me for:

    1. my creativity
    2. my common sense and logic and problem-solving abilities
    3. the personality that is uniquely mine...

because these are the things I value most in myself...what I value
in others a great deal of the time.

81.10To Thine Ownself...HENRYY::HASLAM_BAFri Jul 29 1988 14:5512
Within myself, I most value the ability to communicate exceedingly
well; in fact, I treasure this ability and strive to improve it
daily. I value being true to myself, and being myself. I value
the courage to stand up for what I believe in, and the ability to
empathize with others. I value the ability to be open minded; and
caring enough to be compassionate, even toward those that I do not
agree with. I value honesty and integrity.

Oddly enough, I value the same things in others that I do in
    myself...;-)

I think having a character that can offer positive support to
another person is valuable. Support positive in that it's not enabling
this other person to continue along in negative or life defeating
    ways.

	- I value the fact that I can be trusted

	- I value being a unique individual and doing
things the way I do them because it's me, and not
because someone thinks I should do things a certain

yes, but what do you want people to admire most about you?

your ability to wield definitions and difficult concepts to prove

I value honesty, integrity, and loyalty above all else. I also
value patriotism. Not in the sense that one has to accept
everything that happens in this country, but in the sense that
if something's wrong, a patriotic person will try and correct
the fault rather than just bad-mouthing their country. I also
value a trait that I don't really know how to define. It's
when someone always tries to be optimistic, have a good time
and be happy. Not that they hide from problems, but if there's
a purpose to life it must be to make others, and therefore oneself,
    	happy.

    	Apologetically long-windedly,

Rachel (For whom Patriotism also means service)

What I admire in myself and others is that something that makes
each of us a unique individual and not just a clone of some common
    idea.

I like the feisty, the argumentative, the brave, the gentle, the
honest, the fearful, the squeamish, the hypocrite, the spiritual,
the sensual, the sexual, the philosophical, the mathematical in
    all of us.

As I am a very recent newcomer to notes, please bear w/me if this
    reply doesn't come out right.

What I admire most in people is honesty, fairness w/fellow humans
no matter what the risk of being that way may be. I've found in
some cases of being honest, I've lost the battle somehow. But,
eventually, and in the long run, it has worked out best for me to
    be honest and fair w/everyone.

I've gotten myself into more conflicts with friends who are having
conflicts but have managed to keep the peace. Sometimes at a high
    risk.

I like matter-of-fact people who stick to their convictions and
principals. People who are easily swayed are in trouble for sure.

Well, this is a test to see how it all works.
81.35honesty, fairnessHBO::MURRAYThu Aug 18 1988 13:379
I admire and value honesty in people. Folks that demonstrate
a sense of fairness with each other, both in their personal
    and professional lives. Patriotism, integrity.

I *dislike* folks that SAY they are fair and honest, and then
proceed to stab someone in the back. I *dislike* people that
say things that they think one wants to hear, instead of their
    true feelings.

A lot of the above: loyalty ( to spouse, company and country and
self) honesty -( lies always have a way of coming back to haunt).

    also

Integrity - your name goes on everything you do. It means a lot
    to me anyway.
    Individualism - don't be a slave to convention. ( I can alsmost
hear Mom now - "But Lou, thiis is what all the young men are wearing
    now..."_)

Spirit - Take life by the b__ls!! There's no need to sit and mope.
    Go get excited about something!!

Is this me saying this!?! Must be Friday!
