657.0. "My Dream" by REGENT::BROOMHEAD (Don't panic -- yet.) Mon Jan 18 1988 12:20

    I had a dream:

Jim Baranski and Dave Low came to the Womannoter's party. Peggy
Leedberg (or perhaps it was Bonnie Reinke, or...) were talking,
and we got onto the subject of herbal medicines. I took her to
show her mine, which I keep in the bathroom.

When we got there, Dave Low said that Jim Baranski was in the
bathroom. Since I knew that Jim did not believe that requests for
privacy were to be honored, especially when made by people who
did not actually, physically own the place where they wished to be
private, I walked in on him, and Peggy (?) followed.

I had barely started to point out what I used for cold sores when
Jim exploded. He was not really coherent, but I gathered that he
objected to my presence there, in my own house! We were soon joined
by Dave, who was backing Jim up, but wouldn't give a reason why.

Peggy (?) and I tried to explain that Jim could not expect to get
what he refused to give. Neither of them seemed to understand this.
I tried to point out that our getting eyetracks on Jim was not a
crime beyond all other crimes. Neither of them seemed to believe
this. I tried to say that one-person-per-bathroom was just a
convention of modern society, and that notefiles were so new that
we were still developing their conventions, and that we didn't yet
know what customs would come to be, but they wouldn't even let me
get out two sentences in a row to explain this idea. It was a real
    nightmare.

What do you suppose this dream meant?

Ann, maybe if you continue the dream when you go to sleep tonight,
you can let us know how you resolved the issue.

Clearly, Ann, the dream is symbolizing your subconscious fear
of the passage of the ERA amendment, specifically the part
about men and women sharing bathrooms! :) :)

What an interesting dream! You know, in supporting everyone's legal
right to go where they wish, note where they wish, etc., we women ought
to start using the men's rooms. The "MEN" and "WOMEN" designations are
merely customary, and people observe them out of courtesy, but of course
since no one can be excluded from public property they certainly aren't
legal. This would be an especially great boon at theatres, movies, and
other cultural events where the lines for women's rooms wrap around the
corridors, while the men's rooms seem under-used. I expect some of our
male contributors will be in the forefront of this movement, not wanting
to miss the opportunity to swap tampon tips in the women's room and
give friendly waves to women in the men's room...

After seeing what men, with their wildly inaccurate aim, do to men's rooms,
you might not consider the above such a good idea. :`(

I can see you haven't been to any Rock concert in awhile.
Women ARE using the mens room quite regularly at these events,
atleast the few I've been to. It does tend to make the trip
short when you're standing there answering nature and two
women walk past you to get to the stalls. ;^)

RE: .0

Is this supposed to be a joke, or what? I'm not sure how I'm supposed to
react to this, but my first reaction is hysterical laughter... :-}

If I had anything to say about my reactions, they would not at all what Ann
dreams that they would be. I guess Ann doesn't know me all that well, so, what
should I expect... I don't know Ann very well, either, but I know what I don't
know... :-}

"Since I knew that Jim did not believe that requests for privacy were to be
honored, especially when made by people who did not actually, physically own the
place where they wished to be private, I walked in on him, and Peggy (?)
followed."

That is not at all what I believe. I believe that NOTES is not any better
suited to privacy then your living room in the middle of the party; 'okay,
everybody shutup or leave, we want some privacy!'. You walking into the
bathroom would be like hacking into my account and reading my MAIL.

*IF* someone tried to walk into the bathroom when I was there, I would have
first off secured the door beforehand, (especially during a party when lots of
people may need the bathroom and not know if it is occupied). I assume you have
some kind of latch on your door, or I might have tried to block the door shut
when someone tried opening it, (assuming they thought the bathroom was empty).

Assuming someone walked into the bathroom on me, unless it was someone who made
it obvious that they would like to be alone in the bathroom with me, I would
quickly finish up and leave. I doubt that I would make a fuss. I don't consider
myself very modest, but I try to respect whatever amount of modesty other people
have.

"I tried to point out that our getting eyetracks on Jim was not a crime beyond
all other crimes."

I would not think that it would be, however... I tend to want to see whatever
someone gets to see of me... Sounds fair to me, eh? Or does the fact that you
own the house say you can do whatever you want in it? Lay eyes on anyone you
choose? Strip them?? Touch them??? Clearly you can see where that leads...
I do not mean to imply that you would do any of this.

The difference between a notes file, and your house, is that *neither* of us
owns any notes file.

If this was a dream, If I had that dream, I would interpret that my mind was
struggling with an idea that opposed one of my ideas, and that I had better take
a *real* close look at those ideas.

.0 makes me feel uneasy, because it *could* be interpreted very badly, and I
*could* ask to have it deleted. However, I do not believe that Ann meant it
that way, I have more respect for Ann then that.

I am sorry that I could not make the party, it must have been a good one! :-)

Jim.

I am not amused. This note has been in this conference for almost
24 hours. To this reader it is a form of ridicule and not appropriate
    for the conference.

The man mentioned in .0 is a friend of mine. I do not always agree
with his opinion, but nonetheless I like him.

If you do not like him that is okay...but he deserves the same
treatment as everyone else in this conference.

Maybe there was a hope that he did attend the party and the situation
did occur and the author was able to act out her fantasy.

Maybe those people who were concerned about attending the party
because they had differences of opinion with the hostess were
    justified.

Please do not take this whole thing too slanderously or seriously
or anything. It was just a dream. That's all. I'm sure I'm not
the only one who incorporates a random aglomeration (see below)
of people/places they know into fantastic (i.e. unreal and
unbelievable) situations in the everyday (or everynight) act of
dreaming. Granted, they don't always type them in, but sometimes
I know mine are too weird to remember cohesively, let alone write
down....I think the posting was intended to be humorous.

Aglommeration - not a real word, but one I like nonetheless. It
stems from the imaginary root "glomm", to latch onto or stick to.

The following is from my paperback Funk & Wagnalls

agglomerate (v.t. & v.i.) - To gather, form, or grow into a mass.

I suspect "glom" has been derived in reverse from "agglomerate",
just as the verb "to escalate" was derived from the tradename
    "Escalator".

I would have felt more comfortable reading the name in the basenote
had it been acknolwedged by the people's who's names were used.
But, then again, by associating the character with the name I thought
the images to be very well represented. Made for great reading....

To tell the truth, I had a dream last night of such startling clarity
(although certainly less vivid), that I had a hard time convincing

I was told in anvance of the communal "UNISEX" bathrooms in Japan

However I was rather shocked and embarrassed while at the urinal

and a Japanese Lady walked in and went to the open area that serves

as a Toilet. "I finished and left hurriedly"

The Germans will stop anywhere and perform the tasks of
nature and while in Amsterdam I saw several people use the canels
    as urinals.

When one must perform a bodily function, If an enclosed space is
available, I believe that we should use it.

    H o w e v e r... have you ever really had to void badly and there
