We have an internal opening for an Engineer I in NRO5. This person's
responsibilities would be to: interface with (internal) customers and
provide technical consultatin on problems brought to the lab; perform
analyses using Scanning Electron Microscopy, Ion Chromatography, X-Ray
Flourescence, and Electro-Chemistry; prepare technical reports which
summarize the results of the experimental findings; use data analysis
packages to evaluate data and prepare graphical and tabular
presentations.
Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Materials or a closely
related field, two years industrial laboratory experience Engineering
or Manufacturing groups.
We need this person ASAP, and are willing to relocate. It has thus
far been very difficult finding anybody internally, which is why we
are trying here. Needless to say, both women and men (and any other
genders you happen to know of) are welcome to apply.

| The req has been in the job book two weeks, and I just got it into
COOKIE::JOBS (#1497.0). While I understand they are particularly
interested in minority/women, the number of candidates (of any
race, gender, sexual orientation, whatever) has been underwhelming
to say the least.
As maggie says this is well within the realm of AA and valuing
differences. I have heard so many stories about people working
as secretaries when they have excellent technical skills -- the
people hiring seem unwilling to disassociate their skills and
background from the fact that they aren't CURRENTLY using those
particular skills. I can assure you all that is NOT the situation
in this lab or with this manager; people have joined our group from
working in a bookstore (me), in security, etc.
This is a win-win situation: _we_ need better resources for finding
internal candidates, and a large number of _you_ are unhappy in
your present jobs.

sent to him on that node.
As I hope you all know already, I would welcome applications from
the members of this community.

| I have been trying to fill this req for some time. Acoustics experts
are hard to come by however, and I am now open to bringing in someone
at the Engineer I level and training him/her.
Requirements: BA/BS or equivalent, good learner, some knowledge of any
of the following: Materials, Physics, Failure Analysis, Wave
Propagation, Electronic Components. Will work with minimal supervision
once trained, technical writing and presentations will be required.
This could be filled internally by someone looking for a change
in fields and a variety of different problems to solve, or by a
"new-college hire".
