Conference yukon::christian_v7

	I am currently reading Woman, Wife, Mother by Pat Harrison.

	I looked through my church audio/video library listing, and
	couldn't find much there.

	Anyone have references to other good reads on the subject ?

Hi Karen,

Not sure if this counts as a reference or not, but I currently get a 
periodical called "The Christian Woman".  Most of the articles are 
pretty anecdotal but good.

I think there are some books by Edith Schaeffer that deal with family 
that touch on the roles of wife and mother.  I'll check on that.

One of my favorites - Proverbs 31:

A wife of noble character, who can find ?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
  and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm all the 
  days of her life.
She selects wool and flax and 
  works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ship, bringing
  her food from afar.
She gets up while it is still dark;
She provides food for her family and
  portions for her servant girls.
She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable,

Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; 
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Give her the reward she has earned, and 
let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

    I have a subscription to Today's Christian Woman is that the same
    magazine you are talking about Leslie?
    
    This has a lot of good information in it, and you can usually find a
    copy at any Christian bookstore.
    
    
    

Er, um, it might be.  I'll have to go home & check the cover, just got
a new issue yesterday, this is my second issue - a Christmas gift from
one of my sisters.  And while doing that I'll check on the subscription
info too.

     The Hidden Art of Homemaking by Edith Schaeffer is very good.
    
     Also, one Christian women's magazine that my wife reads from cover to
    cover is Gentle Spirit. Dynamite stuff here! It's focus is primarily on
    the stay at home with the kids mom, but in its pages are gems for
    anybody seeking to honor God. It has sections on herbal medicine, bread
    baking, teachings on developing Biblical convictions, advice from older
    women who have succesfully raised Christian kids (see Titus 2:1-5),
    creative crafting with from the viewpoint of making things from stuff
    you already have, modest clothing patterns, resources to help you save
    money on just about everything, Bible studies pertaining to women.
    
     I have the subscription info around here somewhere and will enter it
    later. 
    
     I used to recommend Mary Pride's HELP for growing families but they
    have come across with their view like a sledge hammer. Gentle Spirit on
    the other hand is like its name implies, very gentle.

                           My Wife, My Love

 She is my companion in whom I find complete satisfaction and comfort.
 She removes all cares but the ones I create in myself, and even then
 she can often smooth them away with a gentle touch, and melt them away
 with warm understanding.

 minds, and spirits. She is delicious and delightful, precious and ex-
 citing.

 The joy of her presence can shut out the din of the world. My happi-
 ness depends on her. She is my life and my love.

I'm thinking I should take the date off that and see if she remembers.
Sort of like taking home the flowers someone else gives you, I suppose...
