I am going to try for the first of the season this weekend
if good old MOTHER NATURE will cooperate. Yesterday the temp. reached
60 f. This morning I wake up to white ground. Oh well, at least
the gravel pit is still not frozen over.

No Bass yet for me , but, my fishing partner hooked a baby (10")
yesterday. Air temp 35, light wind, 4:30 pm, no h2o temp/ no
thermometer. We were fishing the Assabet river, our theory was
if there are nice bass in the "stump" pond, "A-1" pond then there
must be some in the river downstream. Besides it was the only open
water we could find. Seems the theory only worked for one of us though....
We plan to retest the area today at lunch when it will be a little
warmer. By the way, I have heard a number of names for the Assabet
holding pond so I thought I would give my $.02. We call it the
"Dinosaur" pond; if you have ever been there for a foggy, wet
    sunrise.....You Know Why....

Well...I finally made it out for the first time yesterday on the Merrimack
River, Bow, NH.

Water temps at the mouth of the power plant discharge was 56 degrees at
noontime, but had dropped to 54 within a couple of hours. I suspect that
the power plant wasn't pumping any hot water.

Anyways...zippo...el skunk-a-rooni! Although there were 6-8 boats in the
area, the only people catching anything were a guy and his wife in a 373
Ranger using live nughtcrawlers. She did manage a 3 lb smallie, but most of
their action was suckers...big ones! Not even the shiner fishermen were
catching anything!

Oh well...it was great to be out once again. The new All-Star rod feels
great! But it would have felt better with something tuggin from the other
end! Better days are yet to come...

WELL GENT'S I HAVE BEEN FISHING IN 70+ to 80+ TEMPS. FOR MONTH'S
AND BRINGING IN SOME FINE FISH. JUST THE OTHER DAY A CO WORKER
AND I WENT OUT AND CAUGHT 17 CROPPIE, 4 CHANEL CATS AND 5 LARGE
MOUTH BASS. THIS WAS ALL WITH IN A 4 HOUR PERIOD. THE LARGEST
BASS WAS ABOUT 3 AND A HALF POUNDS. THE WATER TEMP. WAS IN THE
LOWER 70'S AND THERE WAS A LIGHT BREEZE. WE CAUGHT THE CROPPIE
AND CATFISH ON LIVE BAIT THEN WENT TO CRANK BAITS IN THE EVE TO
PICK UP A FEW BASS. ALL THE FISH WE CAUGHT WERE GETTING READY
    TO START THE SPRING SPAWN.
                                           SPRING IS HERE!

We'll I got my first nice bass of the season last night... 4 lb+
largemouth. The bass are starting to pair-up in pre-spawn
and have been fussy for the last week and I've only landed a few
between 1 to 2 lbs. Caught this mother just off shore in 7 feet
of water using a Fat Rapp crank bait. I finally broke in my
new Abu 531 plus and 7' crankin stick, not a bad catch for the
first fish on a new rig!

Of course I let her go right away. And my honey hole is still
producing! Hope she sticks around after spawning and gains a
    pound for next year!

Not only are they up, but we have spawning bass on the beds already.
Largemouths are on the beds in Manchung and smallmouths are sitting
in Singletary (both in south central Mass off Hwy 146).

I have only managed to catch three fish this year yet, but, get
this, all of them weighed with ounces of each other. A 4# largemouth
a 4# smallmouth, and a 4# shad. Not much in the quantity department,
but not bad for quality. If this keeps up, I won't mind.....:^)
Big fish are in this year......;^)

Tight lines, Ranger Ron (who will be shad fishing this weekend...again)

No I am the tournament director for my club. This was submitted
as a big smallmouth of the year my a member( we give trophies),
and he caught it on the lake I have lived on for 15 years.. (it
must have been one of those fish I put in there from Quabin res
over the years. They were almost 4 lbs when I put them in.
