1217.0. "Visitor Tournament ANYONE?????" by GENRAL::HUNTER (from SUNNY Colorado, Wayne) Wed Aug 09 1989 14:55

Well, just finished filling out the travel request. It NOW
seems that I will be in Salem from Sept. 8th till Sept. 11th. Anyone
want to try to get together for an impromptu mini-tournament either
the 9th or 10th? Hopkington (sp) has been possibly suggested as
a place. Whatever!! I am open for suggestions.
Also, I am scheduled to stay in the Salem Inn. Anyone want
to get together somewhere for a B.S. (Beautiful Sunshine) session
Friday, Saturday, or Sunday evening? I would like to get to put
some faces with some names. Monday night would also be OK for a
meeting of the minds but would have to end early since I am scheduled
to leave Logan airport at 7:00 A.M. Tuesday to get home. (Wife's
    birthday.)
If there isn't interest in a mini-tourney, then I will be looking
for a partner in the NIO area for (probably) Sunday. Anyone out
there want to show a misplaced Coloradan how to fish for Eastern
Bass???? Who knows, both of us might learn something new. (Then
again, maybe not. :-) ) I already have an invite to go one day
with Keith Dilsworth. This would probably be on Saturday of that
week unless we get a tourney set up for Sunday. Will be fun to
fish his water with him after fishing mine.
Anyway, enough ramblings. Let's start getting this thing rolling!!

1217.3WHERE IS EVERYONE?????GENRAL::HUNTERfrom SUNNY Colorado, WayneMon Aug 21 1989 18:3113
As an update, I will be arriving at Logan at 2:40 P.M. on the
7th of Sept. I will then be gathering my belongings and renting
a car to get to Salem. As it appears, a good night for a B.S. session
(That's a Beautiful Sunshine session for the uninformed :-) ) would
be that evening for me. At least, I know where I will be (provided
I don't get lost between the airport and Salem) that evening. The
rest of the evenings are getting filled up rather quickly. So,
I am open for a time and place for this GREAT meeting of the minds!!!!
Now, about a mini-tourney. Where is everyone????? No responses,
suggestions, times, places, etc. What is this??? Is everyone AFRAID
to fish against a Western Basser???? I AIN'T that good. ( :-) or
:-| :=Q or :-O inserted here as you think the case may warrant.) So,
let's get this show on the road.

If I'm not traveling, I'd be happy to take you up to Hopkinton (Stumpfield)
Lake. As it stands now, I'll be around. Give me a call.

Wayne,

Where you're making your mistake is that you're going to NH instead of
sticking around the civilized world down here in the Bay State. Now if you
were coming down here instead, you'd be swamped with invitations to fish, but
up there (way up north) right after Labor Day those New Hampshire people are
getting ready to go ice fishing, shining up their snow shovels, and preparing
for hibernation....;-);-);-)

Hey Wayne,

Al is just begging for trouble! NH is known as "GOD'S COUNTRY" and has some
of the best bass fishing in New England. I mean clean water, fresh air,
plenty of wildlife (get my drift??). I know he's jealous that he doesn't
live up here. I used to live in TAXachusettes many years ago and I wouldn't
want to go back. Yeah, I agree that there's some decent bass waters down
there, but with all the pollution and ridiculous taxes, I can't understand
how anyone in their right mind would choose to live there.

Soooo.... if you enjoy clean air, the sounds of loons echoing through the
mountains, and bass fishing at its finest, fish GOD'S COUNTRY...not HELL!

OK gentlemen, lets get this show on the road. Wayne was gracious enough
to take me fishing in Colorado last month and I want to return the favor.

I am sure he would take any of you fishing if you are out that way. The
least you can do is show up and donate your money to us. 8-)

Now, for those that can't make the 9th, who wants to go fishing

Saturday) :-), then a few suggestions as to places to go get a line
wet in the Salem area might be appreciated. OR, if someone in the
Mass. area wants to set up a fun tourney for Sunday and wants to

I expect my partner will be either FFF or Paul H, the partner I had when we

Actually, if FFF or PH can't make it, you're welcome to join me.

I would like to fish, but as stated earlier this year, I will not
register my boat in NH this year. If someone is looking for a
partner and has enough room in thier boat for the following:

      1) 1 case budweiser
      2) 175 lbs of assorted tackle
      3) 12 fishing poles
      4) 8 bologna & cheese sanwhiches
      5) 25lbs additional gear (hook sharpeners, line srtipers color
         celector etc...)
      6) 255lb "BASSMASTER"

I would love to fish with you.

    BASSMASTER,
If you REALLY want to fish this thing that badly, I am SURE
that I might be persuaded to bring along one of the BELLY_BOATS
for you to use. Only problem with that might be that you would
have to store the things marked with *** in the boat with me.

    *** 1) 1 case budweiser
    *** 2) 175 lbs of assorted tackle
*** 3) 12 fishing poles (Only carry one at a time in the B-B)
    *** 4) 8 bologna & cheese sanwhiches (SAME NOTE AS 3)
*** 5) 25lbs additional gear (hook sharpeners, line srtipers color
celector etc...) {Might get half of that in the backpack and
    	 side pocket}
          6) 255lb "BASSMASTER" (I think it will float the EXTRA 65
pounds, but, you might want to lighten up on the gear a little
and store some more in the boat with me!!!!!)

However....

I don't want to scare anybody off, but... So far, we've never been
	beaten in a tournament!

Okay... so neither of us has ever entered one, so maybe we can ask
	some dumb questions?

Can I assume that flyfishing is OK? Nothing in the current rule list
	seems to prohibit it.

	>Rule 3a. ONLY ONE line/person in the water at a time. Nit...
Not important, but I'm curious. If I catch a stump, and want to
fish the spot before I plow in and retrieve my lure, would it be
a violation if I used another pole to fish the spot first? Would
it make a difference if it was stuck "in the water" or out?

Hawg pool - Is it $10 per person, or per team?

Absolutely no reason why you can't use a flyrod! With the cooler
waters, you just might be in for some real fun.

A sticky point. Technically, the line is in the water, albeit

1217.31NWT, But Not Me...CLSTR1::VARLEYFri Sep 08 1989 14:1534
Here's the bad news "Lavender Jack" alluded to. First, I have to
bow out because domestic obligations (what the hell, they're my
first this summer, but I DID get to take a solo golf trip to Illinois)
and logistics (2 1/2 hrs home after a few beers with a probable
1am eta). Second, my replacement will be the notorious deviant and
panderer, Mr. Northwoods Tom Coots, providing Stumpfield is within
    his parole officer's district.
NWT is a Brockton, Ma. "product", a graduate of the University
of the Street, and a parishioner of The Church of What's Happenin'
Now. As far as I can determine, he has no felony priors, but he's
always had good legal help, so who knows ? Unless his plane from
Colombia is late, he'll be there!!
Cootsie is a serious fisherman, and has passed the Dick Withey
Steelhead Spring Walkathon test, so I'm sure that those of you who
think that fishing is done from carpeted boats and ends in October
will enjoy him. He don't do "big leaf" in cheek, gum or lungs, and
he WILL have a beverage. For those of you who may notice his tattoo,
but are (wisely) too timid to ask, it's "Live to ride, ride to live".
The "if you ain't Harley, you ain't s#@t" tattoo is on his wife.
     A suggestion to the cowboy-who's-been-bucked
off-and-thrown-on-his-head-too-many-times: show some class and stop
boring those of us who have to work for ordinary fish with those
"little 4 pounder" remarks. Hey, we don't fish in hatcheries here...
And remember, guys, "you don't make no money in practice, but you
don't make no money if you don't...". Sorry to miss this one, but
my chances are about the same whether I'm there or not. Have a little
"Colorado Kool-aid" with the Cowboy for me>
One more thought for Wayne; if you haven't read Norman Maclean's
"A River Runs Through It", you're mising somethin'. He wrote your
    life!

As to fishing in a HATCHERY, if they would put some GOOD minimum size
restrictions on the lakes out here, you could catch some better fish.
:-) Will see what kind of fishing you have in this here place this
    weekend. Also, SEE RULE #1!!!
See the rest of you tourney rats tomorrow.

1217.35STILL DRY!!!GENRAL::HUNTERfrom SUNNY Colorado, WayneFri Sep 15 1989 21:518
I don't know about anybody else, but I am STILL trying to pour the
fluid back into my body after that one. I don't mind 90 degrees.
However, you can KEEP your 90% humidity. :-) Still had fun meeting
with, rubbing elbows with, and putting a few more faces to names.
Maybe next spring we'll get more hardy souls out if I make another trip
back that way. Might even have to try to set up a Mass. tourney. Keep
your ears to the ground fellows. Otherwise, I might just run over
someone on my way to the water with the float tube.
1217.36But a GREAT nite!!CGVAX2::HAGERTYJack Hagerty KI1XTue Sep 19 1989 22:4013
I got to admit. We were ready for SNOW. The weather was HOT during the
day -- but could not have been nicer when the sun went down. I brought
shorts -- plus an extra pair for North Woods Coots or he would have
died. We also left the trolling motor down, took off like hell to
another spot and got drenched coming back down off 'plane'. WE LIKED
    IT.
We also might have down better -- Coots found my 12X50 Binocs and
wanted to spend a lot of time around the beach area. Alot of you might
    have saw us there.
Glad we went. We we caught more larger Bass. Like Joe T, lots of
shorts. Wish we had planned for more social time too. See ya next time
Wayne. Maybe we should start an annual 'Wayne Hunter' tounrey. But who
    needs an excuse?

If you PROMISE to get that HUMIDITY under control, I MIGHT consider
    coming back for another get-together. Hopefully, I won't have a wife's
birthday, etc. to shorten the stay. If I remain in this job, I will
get quarterly trips back there for testing. So, maybe March, June, or
Aug./Sept. again. Who knows? If I work it right, I might even be able
to set up a Saturday tournament in N.H. and a Sunday in Mass. That
way, I can meet more of the NOTERS and donate double the money to the
kitty. :-) If nothing else, I should be able to set up an elbow
lubricating appointment with a few more NOTERS. Enjoyed the time and
fun. Till next time, tight lines and keep the lures wet. Dry lures
    only catch trouble.

Wayne let me help you set the schedule

    	January Q3 trip..........ice fishing tourney
I Tole you onest awready, If GOD had wanted me to fish in
the winter, he would have made ice SOFT and WET. Besides,
the next scheduled test date is Dec. 5th-15th. Might rent
some of those 6 foot ice skates back there and do what some
of you call skiing. (I call it skating with skis back your
    		way.) :-)

    	April	Q4 trip..........Spring classic
You're still about a month off. March is scheduled
already. But, who knows. By then, the Merrimak might
    		have some open water.

July Q1 trip..........night fishing on Quinsig.
NOPE, a month off again. Schedule is June. NOW, end of
spawning season bash sounds in order. Will just have to
wait and see what happens with the jobs.

There...just turn this into a memo for a trip request and
    	then send me your money....:-)
The ONLY way I send the money for a fishing tournament is
if I have a back deck to stand on and pour my money into
the tournament directors hand. (I'M CHEAP!!!) :-)

I see no reason why we cannot have ANOTHER tourney when Coonass
    arrives.
Anyone else like to fish a lake with Coonass. Joe -- Pawtuckaway?
1217.47ABACUS::TOMASJoeTue Sep 26 1989 18:5213
I dunno, Jack. I was thinking of heading north for some smallmouth action.
Pawtuckaway will probably be out of the question by the end of October as
they start drawing down the lake right after Columbus Day and it may be to
shallow to launch. That doesn't mean to say that we couldn't pull something
together on Stumpfield or even the Merrimack River in Concord.

Who else is up for another visitor tourney?

BTW...Coonass, leave your dynamite home this time. If anyone finds out we
blasted that 7 lber I caught a few years ago at Pawtuckaway...well...us damn
Yankees can get mighty vicious!
