414.0. "Help in Royalston area!!!" by JACUZI::RSPEAR () Fri Jul 17 1987 14:09

Does anyone out there have any information on a camping area arround
Royalston, Rt. 122 area??? I heard there was one on a lake up there.
That's what I'm looking for so I can do some fishing too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think Rt. 122 goes through Royalston, but further south
around Athol/Orange. There is a State Park campground in Winchendon
(the town next to Royalston to the east) on Rt. 202 on Lake Dennison.

There is a camp ground at Tully Lake in Royalston. This is
a small "backpack only" 20 site campground right on the
shore of Tully lake. I haven't been there this year, but
the cost was $3.00/night last year.

RE: Lake Dennison, this is not in Royalston, it is in
    	Winchendon.

    	Hope this helps

There are a number of camping areas near the Royalston area, but few with
boating and fishing capabilities. The aforementioned Tully Lake is very close
and a beautiful lake for fishing. There's also Lake Dennison in Baldwinville,
with 150 campsites and fishing but no boating; and Erving State Forest in
Erving, with 32 campsites, fishing, and boating. There are also close to
fifteen state parks or forests within 30 miles of Royaltson.
I would suggest you call the Mass. Forests and Parks dept. for maps
and other literature that is free (at least you don't pay for it at the time.)
The number in Worcester county is (617)368-0126, in the Connecticut River
Valley is (413)549-1461, and what they call the Northeast area and looks
like Middlesex county is (617)369-3350.
	I hope this helps some.

Not to be too picky, but Lake Dennison IS in Winchendon (my home
town) as I mentioned in .1, also, refering to Baldwinville may be
confusing to some as it is only a village in the town of Templeton.
(Other villages include Otter River, Templeton center, and East
    Templeton.)

You might also consider Lake Menomonac. There is no camping
there, but it isn't too far from Lake Dennison if you follow
Rte. 202 north about 5-6 miles. There is a launch at the marina
on the state line. I'm not sure about charges or conditions since
I left Winchendon in 1968 and rarely go back except to visit my
    parents.

I think Monomonac's launch it $3, and the condition of the launch
is fine... that's where our last (and next) interstate tourny was
    (will be)...

catch and release there for sure...
