920.0. "California dreamin'" by SASAKI::SASAKI (Marty Sasaki LTN1-1/D07 226-6011) Tue Nov 29 1988 19:38

Next week I get to attend a seminar and spend some time with my
family in Southern California. Haven't been fishing there in years,
so don't know where to go and what to do. Any suggestions?

I can hardly wait for the replies, haven't had any fun since my
last submission a long time ago...

Marty,

You might want to check out some of the San Diego lakes like Hodges, San
Vincente or Miramar. They ALL hold big bass (10-18 lb class!). I'd suggest
calling first to make sure when they are open.

A friend of mine and I hit San Vincente about a year ago for a day and
although we didn't do too well, it was real nice. They offer boat rentals,
licenses, etc.

Good luck!

Can't recall where I saw it, but I recently heard of a 20+ lb bass
being taken from a lake in Southern California just this year.

    Gotta be worth a try!

The lake that has the biggest lunkers is Miramar. San Vicentes
    probably second.

I guess I will bother my Dad while I am out there. He has a boat
in the garage, hasn't had it out in years. 19 pound bass will get
him excited enough to put in the work...

19 pounds, eh? My son weighs less than that!

My wife's grandmother has a cat that weighs 22lb. Maybe I'll go
for the indoor lunker Cat-fish record... winter's a-comin'...

Well...it looks like I have to go to sunny souther California for a business
meeting on Friday, the 16th, in Mountain View, and then another one on
Tuesday, the 20th in Torrance. Since it doesn't make sense to fly back from
the first one just to turn around and fly back, it looks like I'll get to
stay with my folks in Anaheim for a few days over that weekend.

Soooo.... it looks like I may be headed down to the San Diego Lakes for a
day or two of hawg-hunting! Now the problem is deciding WHICH lake to fish!
Miramar? I dunno, I hear that the bass down there have lead poisoning.
Maybe Lake Hodges? Or maybe I'll go back to San Vincente.
Decisions...decisions!

While you guys are all hoping the ice gets thicker for your bash on 1/7,
I'll be basking in the sun fishing for a R-E-A-L hawg! I'll think of y'all,
but only for a moment!

Anyone out there got any tips/info on the Bass fishing near Stockton??? I'm
hoping for a RELO to San Ramon (between Oakland and Stockton) soon. I've
heard there are some impoundments in the area. What about the Sacramento
River?

Any info would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks

Geez guys, didn't get too much response with this one. Surely someone out
there fishes the East Bay Area. I'm now located in temporary quarters in
Alameda. We'll be moving to the San Ramon valley in a couple months.

I've been up to the San Pablo Reservoir (just looking, not fishing). Where
else can I go around here? How about some info on Clear Lake, Lake Shasta,
Folsom Lake etc.? Surely there must be someone (how about one of you Read-
Only-Noters speaking up) who fishes this area. Am I breaking new ground
here or what?

With all the Decies in Santa Clara, Cupertino, Mountainview, etc there must be
someone out there who knows the area.

Have you checked out Lake Merced up in San Francisco? That's usually
well stocked. Are you looking for stripers? If so, there's the Bay
    itself.

Best bet is to just stop at a local fishing shop, and ask questions.
There's a pretty good book out that you can probably pick up either
there or at any of the good book stores, "Bass Fishing in Northern
California," or some similar title. It tells which lakes are stocked
where, where to park, when to go, etc.

Sorry I don't know that much, since I kind of like streams myself.
(But I am trying to get some people from the office here in Mountain
View to go in on an ocean charter- I'll let you know if we do, if
you like). Finally, you may want to ask your question in SILICON_VALLEY
    or SAN_FRANCISCO notes conferences.

    Good luck,

This note hasn't been updated in awhile so I'll do it. I'm heading
to Santa Clara for training in November, and was hoping someone could
give some suggestions for some good bass fishing. I'm going to go
through all of my magazines at home, seems I recall a couple of
articles about California. I'll be out there for two weeks so I should
have some time to do a little fishing. Any help would be appreciated.

Clear Lake about 2.5 hours north of the bay area is one of the finest
largemouth lakes in the west. If you can find the time I'd try to make
it up there for as weekend.
