436.0. "Crawdads " by VENOM::DEMERS () Fri Jul 31 1987 12:28

For all you folks out there looking for a Crawdad, or know someone
who looking for one, well I was in Caldor's Dept store in Bedford,
NH. last night and they were having a CLEARANCE on all the Crawdads
that they had in stock. These Crawdad's are the Colemans types
that go for around $375.00, they are letting them go for $162.00..

I checked with the stockboy, and they have 15 Crawdad's that they
want to move out. Again this is not a sale but a CLEARANCE, so
when these 15 are gone from this store, THEY ARE GONE.

Hi..I'm a Canuk from Kanata, Ont. I can't believe the price of the
Coleman Crawdad down there. I was looking at that same boat yesterday
and it was priced at $745.00 Canadian. Thats approx. $570 U.S. using
    1.3 exchange rate. $162.00 is a steal....go for it.

The CRAWDAD is VERY stable with two adults.....I do it all the time.

    My CRAWDAD generally holds:

. A large beverage cooler (doubles as a table) full of ice and diet
      pepsi
. Three or Four tackle boxes
    . 6, 7, or 8 rods
. An electric on the front with battery
. A two horse gas motor on the back
    . Two adults

    Plenty safe and very stable

    I srewed up. It's 299 not 199. SORRY.

It would be a great duck boat if that's what your thinkin about.
doesn't draw much water at all. Depends of course on how you load
    it up.

and no fish offs at DELANEY project. You need an airboat to get
    around in there.

My brother and I bought a CRAWDAD two weeks ago and finally have it
outfitted to do some good bass fishing. We figured that we did pretty
good since we were on a tight budget (Co-op's are poor). The DAD and
all acessories will fit on top/in my Rabbit so we can fish any small
pond without to much effort; takes us about ten minutes to unload boat
and mount accessories. This is what we got:

            COLEMAN CRAWDAD BOAT $299.00 w/rebate (RICH'S)
Eagle Fish ID LCD Depthfinder $129.00 Service Merchandise
MinnKota Model 10 (8lb thrust) $ 51.00 Bass Pro Shops
5.0 hp Johnson (1953 but perfect) $175.00 Lucky Purchase
            Boat Registatation + Excise Tax $ 11.00
                                                 -------
                                                 $665.00

Since we split the cost we got out of it for pretty cheap. We have
already used it about 10 times and has improved are catch tremendously.
I have been using an old car battery for the electric motor and
depth finder. Do I really need a deep cycle battery or would I
probably be all set with a small (looking at weight aspect) car
battery? The electric motor draws 12 amps (max) and the depthfinder
    draws .200 milliamperes.
Can the Transducer send signals through the RAM-X plastic?
Currently I have the transduced mounted in the rear but I don't want to
beat on it by hitting it on the ground.

No more fishing from shore, Ahhhh

436.25Nifty little boat!CASPRO::PRESTONWhat makes the Hottentots so hot?Mon Jul 24 1989 17:4017
    Steve,

I just recently bought a Crawdad (package deal from someone w. too
little time to use it), including a 5hp motor, trolling motor, and
a few other accessories (but no fish finder). I used it up at
Winnipesaukee while we were up there on vacation. Sure nicer than
a canoe, but I am selling the outboard to try to offset the expense
a little, since most of the fishing I do is not that far ffrom where
the boat is launched - or in small water - so I can do without the
    gas motor if necessary.

Anyhow, I think they're great, but the thing's a bear to handle
(load and unload) alone, which I have had to do a few times. This
one's an XT model, 150lb vs 110lb, but I like the fully carpetted
floor and swivel seats once it's in the water..!

436.26CRAWDADIN'DNEAST::HARRIS_STEVEMon Jul 24 1989 19:1716
    Ed,
The CRAWDAD is growing on me more and more every day. It is so
simple to just toss it over a gaurd rail into some small rarely fished
pond. If you already have a battery in your boat I would really
suggest that you get a LCD depthfinder. The EAGLE that we got has more
features than I could have ever imagined 5 years ago plus it is very
light and waterproof. Mounting the tranducer is difficult once the
boat is assembled, that is why I asked about internal mounting.
Right now I gust have wood screws holding the transducer into the
RAM-X material, not very rugged to say the least since it very easy to
    scrape it against the ground.
I am going out this evening to catch a lunker in the DAD on my
secret honey hole on Lake Aintnobasstocook.

Think anyone would get upset if I put "Bass Masters Classic" in decals on
    the side of the CRAWDAD?
436.27Fish Finder TestEDRON1::DOTYRuss Doty, CTCMon Jul 24 1989 21:3114
Procedure to see if you can use the transducer on a fish finder
through the hull (from an EAGLE installation manual).

Get some water on the floor of the boat -- either on the entire
floor, or build up a dam of clay around the transducer. 1/8" or
so water depth is fine. Hold the transducer against the floor,
making sure that there are no air bubbles between the transducer
and the floor. Use the finder, comparing signals with signals when
the transducer is outside in the water. If the signals are comparable,
then you can mount the transducer inside.

For permanant mounting, use a hard-set epoxy and epoxy the transducer
to the floor. Make sure that there are no air bubbles or debris
between the transducer and the floor.

Been doing a lot of traveling lately. I am always looking for something
    to read, especially about fishing.

In the September Fishing and Boating Illustrated there was an article
about modifying a crawdad. They did some neat things that made it real
functional. The article was the second of two parts. the first was in the
previous issue. I think it was July or July August.

I have the article if anyone wants a copy.

TCDW and all you other Crawdaddies might be interested in a bit
of trivia I came across in the newspaper this morning. The subject
was drinking customs in Scandinavia. I do not own a crawdad, drink
or reside in Scandinavia... I merely repeat this as a public service.

"Drinking is ingrained in national customs, from the protocol of
a formal evening party to the celebration of Crawdad day, which
    falls on August 10."

"On that day, Swedes wear party hats, tie red napkins below their
chins, sing boisterous drinking songs and plunder a bowl of the
small lobster-like shellfish. Custom dictates that each claw is
washed down with a glass of schnapps. About 20 crawdads make a
    meal."
