1120.2JUST CAME BACK !!!KELVIN::VALOISTue May 02 1989 16:347
    Just spent a week on the river ! Returned home on the 22nd of April.
    The Steelhead fishing was good dispite the bad reports. Still lots
    of steelhead spawning in the tribs. Water temp was still on the
    cold side(ave.41-42. Fishing should be good well into the 2nd week
    of May.Any other info, contact me at dtn 2891547 or 2891119.
                                                        Later,

1120.3Late for SteeliesUSRCV1::FRASCHThu May 04 1989 17:028
    This is late for Steelies in the Salmon River! They should be out
    in the lake by now. If the fishing is still good, I suspect it will
    go down hill fast from here. The best times are March and April
    for river fish.

    Good Luck,

    Don

    	I just talked to 1 of 3 guys that just came back from the big
    O. He said they all got skunked and very few fish were being caught
    in general. He said the best has come and gone and they were a week
    or two to late.

1120.7what is a reliable source?CUERVO::GATHMon May 08 1989 18:0616
    Ray,

    I just got back from the big O and with very little fishing
    time we had 4-nice fish.

    I think the problem with using such a small sample is that
    it "may" be a refelection of the fishermen than how fishing
    is . Or purhaps just Bad or good luck.

    we didn't get in the water until afternoon and we were back out
    by about 5:30.

    I wouldn't say it was a great effort.

    	Talking to the person I talked to, he indicated that there were
    dead alewise (sp?) everywhere so the fish had little to no effort
    in trying to find food. He said that even the sea gulls were so
    full that they weren't even going after them.

    	I didn't ask what causes this (spawn maybe ?) but he indicated
    the better times he had were prior to when the alewise were all
    over.

1120.11Some Help?NAVIER::VALOISWed Dec 26 1990 11:2312
    Joe..
         Last reports I have,indicate slow fishing in the Salmon River.
    A little better fishing in the Oswego River...I was up there twice
    last month and the situation was about the same then. The water
    was high in the Oswego R. then and I figure than as it goes down
    the fishing will improve.. the BIG males should start to move into
    both rivers around now !
         Anyway good luck ! and stay warm !

1120.13I LOVE NY FISHING(thats why I moved here)USRCV1::GEIBELLNOTHIN LIKE FISH ON !Wed Dec 26 1990 15:5125

    Joe,

      We have about 4" of snow here now and the temps are around 16 degrees
    with all the rain weve been haveing I would guess the rivers will be
    pretty high especially the Oswego I was up by there a couple weeks ago
    and the water was up at least 2-3 foot.
      I dont know if youve fished the Salmon river before but its probably
    the most dangerous river in this section of NY. the water level is
    controlled by a hydro electric dam in altmar, the water level can rise
    very rapidly, I would recomend chest waders with cleats on the sole
    and a small hunting knife fastened to one of the chest straps, beleive
    me if you go down in the river with chest waders on you will be looking
    for a knife to get out of the waders cause once they are full of water
    you might as well be holding a 50 lb. anchor.
      You could give some of the local bait or tackle shops a call in the
    area you plan on fishing they are ussually glad to help a guy out cause
    that means money in their pocket if you stop there.

        Good luck fishing and I will be looking for your trip report here

     The Lavender Man and I are goin' up on Jan. 2-4, and will fish the
    Salmon and drift the Oswego. I'll publish a report. Heard my pals up
    there got into some HUGE (15-20 lbs) Steelies in Oswego a while back on
    Glo-Bugs.

	Lee,

		I have been going up to Pulaski for the past 5 or so years
	fishing for salmon, but I have never gone up after steel head. I am
	really looking forward to my trip. As of now, it also looks like I
	will be going up on the 2nd of Jan. but if the fishing is good I
	proably will not be back until the 9th or 10th. Maybe I will see some
	of you guys up there !!

		I will let you know how the trip goes ...
