313.0. "fish fresh?" by ANROSE::BROWN () Wed Jun 30 1993 17:12

    Need Help!

I am and always will be a "salt-Water fisherman!
My 12 year old son thinks there are fish in fresh water!

To prove me wrong he would like for you folks who have fished
the general Laconia/Sanbornton/Lake Winnie area for info on
where he could possibly fish from shore and catch a fish thats
better size then a hobbyist aquarium fish...we(he) does not own
a boat(yet) and shore side (lake side/stream side) is all we can do.

We will be in the Laconia Lake Winnie area next week and I'm
positive there ain't no fish in fresh water... :*)

An advanced thanks to any who respond.....

I know people do fairly well from shore in the early spring, when the
trout and salmon are up top. This time of year, the trout and salmon
are down deep and it's probably pretty tough to catch them from shore.
You may be able to catch some perch or smallmouth from various shorelines.

You can rent boats up there. If you decide to do that, you might find
some pretty good smallmouth action around the islands.

good luck,

I know it's a vacation, but my advice is to get up EARLY if you
want to catch some bass. I'd be out at 1st light if it was me.
By noon you'll be ready for a bass fry, couple of brews and a nap :*)

On Lake Winnie I have been catching small mouth bass but I'm fishing
the Islands and points. Alot of the fish are 2 lbs or more, but no real
heavy wieghts yet. There hitting about everything. The best bet is to
rent a boat for a day and get up really early and fish the rocky points
    and Islands.
