460.0. "Where to go in Canada?" by MIMS::KINSER_J () Mon Jul 31 1995 02:16

    Hi,

    I am planning a trip to Canada to fish. Right now I am looking at
    putting it together for May '96. I have never been to Canada but
    understand that the fishing is incredible!!!

    I have looked in Field & Stream and have called a few of those places
    but I was wondering if anybody had any first hand trip experience of
    great places to go.

    There will be 4-6 of us flying in from Atlanta.

    We would love to fly in somewhere remote but not having any "Northern
    fishing" experience should we stick to a place where we will have
    guides?

    Is May an OK time to go?
    What would the weather be like at that time?

    Thanks for the info

    May might be too early. I'd consider June.
460.2more specifics neededPOLAR::WASHERTue Aug 01 1995 06:2722
    1. WEATHER:- Depends how far north you are considering going, rest
    assured that for the most part it will be a little cool, especially
    further north.

    2. Where to go:- Well Canada is a big place, and the fish species you
    are interested in might determine where you will go, nothern ontario
    northern quebec or maybe upto the Northwest territories(monster lake
    trout, 40-50 lbs, Great slave lake).

    3. Any time in may/june would be fine, and most lodges that are fly
       in have guide services available, so finding/catching the fish
       would not be a problem.

    4. Once you have some more specific ideas/questions, i would be glad
       to try and answer some for you.

    from the great white north!!!

    Hi,

    Thanks for the info.

    We have some friends who live near Toronto so I was thinking of flying
    into there, spending the night, and then driving North from there.

    We are looking for Northern, Walleye, Smallmouth and probably going to
    stay away from trout.

    Are there any good places North of Toronto that you know of?

    We will have about 7 days to play with for the entire trip and would
    like to keep the drive out of Toronto to under 8 hours. What would the
    weather normally be like following these guidelines the last week of
    may?

    Hopefully this is enough specifics for you to narrow the selection.

460.7I had to look it up...SUBPAC::CRONINThu Aug 03 1995 13:0724
	C = 5/9(F - 32) .....or.....  F = 9/5C + 32

	   OK, here's a approximates:

		C	F

		0	32

		10	50

		20	68

		25	77

		30	86

		35	95

		40	104

	   The only place the scales match is a -40 (Trivia)

460.8do you need more info??KAOM01::WASHERMon Aug 07 1995 01:279
    If you would like some more info, you could provide me with your mail
    stop and i could send on some information from a recent fish magazine
    I have that has a small report on lake nippising and the fishing it
    also has a list of about 10 lodges etc on this lake, My original
    estimate as to distance from Toronto was wrong, I don't even think it
    would be a 4hr drive.

460.10Try this!TROOA::WITTGENTue Aug 08 1995 15:5524
    If you are interested in booking a fishing adventure in Canada,
    Lake Nippissing or whatever, you might want to try:

    "SportFishing Travel Network"

    Phone: 1-800-667-CAST

    It is affiliated with the "Canadian Sportfishing Magazine"

    To call the magazine for a back issue of information on Lake N,
    call 905-689-1112.

    Good Luck, I appreciate it if you could let me know if this was
    helpful.

    Another great spot for Pickeral/Walleye near Toronto would be
    the Bay of Quinte area in Belleville. This is also an amazing
    spot, my Father-in-Law makes an annual trip.

460.13Mind Math for Fun!TROOA::WITTGENMon Aug 14 1995 15:0911
    Although I have been living in Canada since '81,
    I still can't get used to the Celsius.

    While sitting on the highway, commuting to the office,
    I convert by: multiply by 9/5 and add 32. It keeps your
    mind busy.

460.14Barrage GouinSMURF::HOLTat least I'm enjoying the ride ...Thu Apr 04 1996 13:4012
    OK, so how did anyone make it to the Great White North last year? Last
    reply August '95...

    About 6 of us headed up to an area north of Montreal, a place called
    Barrage Gouin. Mostly just fishing for the big northerns. This will
    be our first fishing excursion to Canada, all the past years have been
    to Moosehead with mixed success, but always a good time.

    If anyone has any knowledge of this place and can provide some info it
    would sure help.
