223.0. "Good Fishing Catalogs?" by WR1FOR::MEYERS_NA () Fri Oct 02 1992 19:25

    Hi,

I am actually planning for Christmas gifts already. My boyfriend
subscribes to Cabellas but are there any other good fishing/hunting/
outdoorsy catalogs that I can subscribe to that you can recommend?

    Thanks in advance,

    Nancy

I have ordered many times from both Bass Pro and Cabela's. Between the
two, you can get most anything. Bass Pro always seems to be the most
dependable in my area (Chicago) for having things in stock and the
    quickest delivery.

Cabela's seems to have a lot more for the Fly fisherman if that is what
    you have in mind.

The folks that work northern Bass are really nice too. They work hard
to get you what you want.

If you live in the New England area there 2 great places for sporting
    goods.
    1) Kitery Trading Post Rte 1 Kitery, Me. #1-207-439-2700 excellent
supply of clothing, hunting & fishing equip., camping, etc. I don't
think they have a catalog. Open from M-S 'til 9pm Sundays 'til 5pm I
    believe, call first.
    2) The world famous L.L. Bean Freeport, Me. 1-800-341-4341 mostly
clothing (excellent quality), some fishing(mostly fly fishing) & canoes
etc. They have cataloges, seasonal and Christmas. They have a 800 # for
    purchases 1-800-221-4221. The store is open 24 hrs/day 7 days a week.

Also Cabela's, Gander Mountain & Bass Pro Shops get my vote. I've made
purchases from all of them & have been very satisfied with their
    service.

Hi Arun...

If flyfishing equipment is your interest you may find more
specific information in the flyfishing notes file. Some
folks from the UK have had a lot of success dealing with
the US shops for lines as well as Loomis rods, etc. Some
of us on this side of the pond have done well ordering
Hardy reels, Wheatly boxes and Barbour clothing. Cortland
lines are the same price everywhere here in the USA so it
really doesn't matter who you deal with unless you want to
couple your order with some other more competitivly priced
items...

hope this helps...

John

Thanks for the information. Even as I wrote the note I had a couple of
catalogues delivered in the mail. One from Cabela's and another from
Campanour. This should get me started espically the note on Loomis rods as
the Sage I bought from Canada is starting to suffer !
