I have been researching the concept of a DIGITAL fishing club that
would be sponsored and recognized by DIGITAL. I have met with personnel
and the responsible person that would bring the organization to Digital
    staff which approves such clubs. Here are the specifics as I know them;

    1. Must have a club president and a treasurer to start
    2. Must have a minimum of ten members.
    3. Must submit a club charter and bylaws(we could use others)
    4. Must have an annunal budget of income and expenses.
    5. Must have an activity/tourne schedule.
    6. Must open an account in DCU for the club.

WHAT DO WE GET IN RETURN??

    1. Athletic/SPORTS uniforms with company name - up to $10 per person.
    2. National membership entry fees - $10 per member (B.A.S.S. ??)
    3. Contribute $10 per member, annually for tourne fee.
    4. Will pay up to $100 for supplies.
    5. Pay for trophies up to $400 per year.
    6. Team athletic/sports equipment up to 30%
    7. Contracted facility rental up to 30%

I have a lot of great ideas to get this kicked off if I can get some of
you to sign-up to the club and help me develop the 'package' for
Digital corporate to review. I expect that we could be in full swing by
the new year. The name of the club I was thinking of was,

     			DIGITAL BASS ANGLERS

What do you say, are you ready to make this work? I read a lot of notes
of folks that wanted it, now I did my homework and know what needs to
be done. Need to form a group to kick this off. I work in MKO1 and feel
that we would need some face to face discussions to get this going or
form a new notes file just for the clubs purpose.

Will you please send me mail to SOLVIT::PAPPAS if you are interested in
forming a club and fishing with co-workers in tournements.

First lets clear up the confusion. NO, I have no plans to affilate this DEC
fishing club with B.A.S.S... I'm only using their booklets as guidelines for
rules/reg, etc.

Now, Brian Ota(of all people) is willing to set up a meeting during lunch to
discuss more in detail. I support this approach and I am asking Brian to set it
up for October 9th for lunchtime in LKG. Brian find a location,,,

It would be good to meet you folks face to face and share ideas on how to make
this happen or decide to walk away from the idea. That's ok to..

Brian, post the meeting time, place etc heree.

thanks

ken

Ok the meeting is set up for 12 on Oct 9 in the Arthur Fiedler
conference room. This is located in Building 1 on the third floor of
the King Street Facility. Its on the same floor as the cafe so you can
run down the hall and grab a sandwhich and eat at the meeting. The
    cafe opens at 11:30.

To get to Lkg just get on rt 495 and take the rt 119 exit. If your
coming from the Lowell area take a right off the exit. If your coming
from Hudson go left off the exit. The entrence for the building will
be on your left just before a mobile gas station you can park in the
first lot or try for a space in the main lot.

Hey it will be great to see you guys without having to dawn rain gear
or down parka's as I have had to wear to the last couple of tournies I
went to. Whoever has the photo album should bring it.

222.5minutes from the first meetingDELNI::OTAMon Oct 19 1992 13:2185
Here are the minutes from the first informal gathering of the Digital
Bass Association (DBA). These are proposals for how the club could
come together. We would like your comments on our proposals. I would
like the comments to come from those interested in joining and not
from those who only want to bust this effort. I think this is a good
start. I would recommend that if your interested in working on some
of the laws and by laws you contact Ken Pappas.

Here is the current proposal for the club

CLUB CHAPTERS/ADMINISTRATION/ENROLLMENT

One club with two chapters; NH Chapter and MA Chapter, we could have
as many as we want.

One President and one Treasurer for the DBA Club and a director and
treasurer for each chapter reporting to the Club President and Treasurer.
These posts would be nominated by the membership and seconded, then
voted on by the club members.

Open enrollment for any DEC (What do you think about Digital Contract
workers/consultants/retired employees) employee, member must be a DEC
Employee.

Any member can be in as many other clubs as they like

$10 annual fee per member

Capital investments like buying a tournament scale will be by
consensus.

CLUB RULES

Lets keep the by laws and rules simple

Rule number 1 Have fun
Rule number 2 Must be a DEC employee
Rule number 3 be disrespectful to the Legend.... just kidding

These rules could be done by having a bunch of us knock around some
ideas and submit it to the body via the notesfile for acceptance.
Looking for volunteers.

TOURNAMENT RULES

Tournaments are totally optional

Tourney proposal is to have set of small trophy's per tournament
1st 2nd 3rd. Each lb. is equal to 1 point

Total number of points at end of year goes will result in Big trophies
for 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

No discussion held on who can enter tournaments. I propose each boat
must have a club member and they can invite who ever they want. Any
DEC employee can enter a tournament if they are interested in the side
pools only however if your not a club member your ending status and
points would not end up on the club roster.

Question over what to do about ice fishing? Should those points be
allowed to the total number? The recommendation is to have two
separate tourney schedules one for soft water and one for hard water.

Any voluntary pool for other awards is on a strictly volunteer basis
and a club member may fish the tournament but elect to not partake in
any voluntary pools or visa versa a non member may fish the tournament
for the voluntary pools but not partake in the point submission. All
side pools will be executed immediately following the tourney and will
not carry over for club purposes.

OTHER CLUB ACTIVITIES

We also talked about voluntarily doing club projects like ramp
cleanups, sponsoring events like children's fishing day at MKO etc. or
perhaps having us sponsor the BP Casting Tournament.

If the club gets a large enough membership, we might want to look at
having a pro come in for lectures, tips. We could hold instructional
meetings on techniques etc.

We discussed club meetings and the proposal is to have them on an as
needed basis and via the tube.

Changes in Ken's work place has required him to drop this club
planning. He asked me if I could pick up the ball for him. I agreed
to doing this up until the membership elects its leaders.

Please send me your name and node if your interested in joining this
club. I am putting together a distribution list to send out to the
general membership. Sending me your name now is not a committment, it
will just get you on the distribution list so you can get all the info
    and make your decision.

Well I have been sending notes out via the distribution and have gotten
a light response to them. I would like to suggest we hold the
discussions in this note unless someone has any objections. The only
request is to limit the banter, slander and otherwise humorous
    anecdotes to a minimum.

I have a couple of topics to discuss:

We originally discussed having one club (DBA) and two chapters MA and
NH. I suggest we have two chapters only combine MA and NH and have a
seperate Australian chapter. This makes sense because we will only
need a president, VP and treasurer of the club.

The only nomination for officer I have recieved so far is from Neal who
nominated himself for King Moron. Rich, you can have that. So anyone
interested in being President, VP or Treasurer? If we don't get
officers no club. What about voting, in here or offline?

    Brian
222.9DELNI::OTAFri Dec 04 1992 11:416
So far we only have two candidates nominated. I was nominated for
President and Keith "Gitzit" Hauer was nominated for Treasurer. Is
anyone else interested in running for either slot or for the VP slot?
You can nominate either in here or send me mail and I will post it.

222.17First official meetingDELNI::OTAThu Mar 04 1993 17:3039
Now that we are a legal Bass Club, lets have our first meeting.

We are planning on meeting in HLO on March 26 at 5:30. Gitzit will
schedule the conference room and let you know location and directions
to get there.

Part of our charter is to make ourselves better fisherman. We take
that seriously and so we asked Dave "Woody" Sullivan to give a talk on
something he has learned on the tournament trails.

The Agenda will be as follows

   Opening meeting member introductions
   Treasurers Report	Keith Hauer
   Club Business	Brian Ota

   Guest Speaker	Dave "Woody" Sullivan

   			Strategies for fishing with Partners

Most of the folks in the club fish with
partners. Woody has been fishing on the
tournament trails with a lot of success and he
will talk about the tips he has learned over
the years and will explain how to bridge the
gap with your partner to maximize your
partnership to have better fishing days

   Membership Your favorite lure

Any member is welcome to share, Their favorite
lure, if you modify it how, ways you use it
                        etc.

Look forward to seeing you there

I just got off the phone with Dave Ohloung the product manager for
Berkley rods and he has agreed to telecon with us at the next DBA
meeting on July 13 in HLO. Dave is going to try and get Dan Foote
their line chemist and Dr Keith Jones their fish behaviorlist to also
tie in. Dave will speak on rods and rod quality in general but will
not do comparitive analysis such as is a All Star or the Accu Flex a
better rod. If the others come it will include the fish studies
berkley conducts and info on line types. Sounds like a lot for 1/2
hour so when I talk to him again I'll see if he is open to extending
    it to an hour.

As you all are aware Berkley is the producer of Berkley Rods, Trilene
Line, Tri Max and the Powerbaites. I believe that this will be a very
informative half hour telecon. They will be open to questions and
    an answers too.

It will start at 5:30 in HLO room to be announced.

to all of you for our club meeting tomorrow at 5:30 in the HLO2-1/B11,
    Semicustom Conference room.

The meeting will start at 5:30. We are having guest speakers tie in
    by phone from Berkley.

DAve Ohlong was the head of the product marketing group for Berkley
    Rods for several years

Dr. Keith Jones is the fish behaviourist and is willing to discuss bass
behaviour in general or discuss the powerbaits.

Barry Day is the head of public relations for the fishing line and is
    an ex tournament fisherman.

The format for these gentlemen is an open question period. So think
about what you would like to know about Berkley Rods, PowerBaits or
TriMAX, Trilene, or ultrathin lines. They requested we not ask them to

222.24tournament trail standingsDELNI::OTAWed Oct 20 1993 16:3737
Here are the top 10 from the just finished DBA tournament trail!

A hearty congragulations to Wendy Kerswell on her really great 18.49 lb
finish making her the first place trophy winner!!!!

Ron Kerswell finished second with 8.59 lbs a great job!

Keith Hauer finished third with 8.40 lbs also a great job!

It was a great time for all of us and we look forward to our next
    seasons tournament trail.

For all of you folks out there worried about joining the DBA and not
being able to fish 5 tournaments, its not necessary to fish all of
them, Keith took third by fishing only 3 and of those only two had fish
    to weigh in.

Thanks again to all of you who fished the tournaments, I had a great
    time.

    Congragulations Wendy, Ronni and Keith!

The DBA is getting ready to have its next meeting in November.

Is anyone interested in having a yard sale for old gear and tackle you
don't use? I have a couple of reels and a rod or two, I would like to
sell or trade. If we get enough interest we could have a good way to
take advantage of the things we no longer use, but still have value.

If DBA members are interested and other non members are interested we
can have an open house to do this. What do you think? We won't
schedule this unless theres enough interest

right now the Date for the next meeting is November the 18th in

better understanding on how to pre fish a lake in prep of a tournament.
I know the members there expressed the same sentiments. I know I

The next scheduled DBA tournament is for JULY 9TH, 7-2PM, at Manchaug
Lake, in Sutton MA. This is on a Saturday and we already have a permit
for it. This tournament is the 2nd of 3 regularly scheduled events
picked by the DBA membership. I believe we'll have to pay a $5 a boat
ramp fee the day of this tournament. All participants are responsible
for paying there own ramp fee.

This time of year can be pretty good at Manchaug. It has a good
population of Largemouths and some Smallies. Typically most of the
fish caught are Largemouths. So Lunker Smallie could indeed be just a
keeper. Les Bazcko caught a Largemouth well over 5 lbs here at a DEC
tournie a few years back, Gary B. (Harbormaster) also caught one
around 6 lbs at a DEC tourney here as well.

Full DBA rules will apply to this tourney (to be added later). El
presidenta OTA will not be able to make this one so it looks like yours
truley will be running another. Any volunteers to help out ??? So
lets start signing up !!!!! 20 points per team, 10 points per team

To get to Manchuag from Worcester area: Take Rt 395 to exit 4E that is
"Sutton Ave Sutton". Drive for a few miles and you'll pass the Singletary
Rod + Gun club on your left. A little further down is Span's country store
and a white church. Take the second right after the church called Manchuag
Rd. There are a lot of campground signs marking the corner. You finally
see the lake after about 1 mile. Keep going around the lake, you will
no longer see it again. Once you pass the YMCA camp bear right at the
fork going down the hill. The ramp will be on your right after you
level out at the bottom of the hill. The entrance to the ramp comes up
very quickly after you level out. If you come to the dam and see the lake
again, you just went by the ramp. Turn around and come back.

If you take 146 out of Worcester it is a lot faster if you get off
the Central Trpk exit which is right at Pleasent Valley golf course.
This is also called sutton ave but the highway sign calls it central
Tnpk. Go Right at the end of ramp. You will come to a 4 corners
with the Blue Jay (pub) on your left. Go straight about 1 mile
a park or some kind of field is on your left then you start to go
up a hill, take the second left after park it's the one with all the signs
for the campgrounds. Then follow directions from Manchuag Rd.

If you know how to find lake singletary, just continue past the ramp on
singletary road all the way around sing. until the road comes to an end.
about 10 miles. Take a left then the first right is manchaug road.

    Bassin Bob

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

The lake has all kinds of ROCKS like singltary so use caution near
shore (don't go buzzing between Island and shore) after you launch
you are in a cove Go to your right to head out into the Big lake.
About 1000 yards or so Almost out of the cove is an old dam under
the water. Right in the middle is an opening IT IS ONLY MARKED
RIGHT NOW WITH TWO SODA BOTTLES at this time. WATCH OUT GO SLOW.
After the dam you can open it up. Just to the rt and left of the
dam there are lots of rocks so go straight.

222.37DBA planning for the fall.DELNI::OTAFri Oct 07 1994 17:3635
Well now that the season drew to a close with those lucky members
fishing todays tourni, its time to look towards the winter.

I contacted Rich Hartley the Commonwealths fish biologist. He is
planning out and implementing the states fish conservation programs for
the next several years. Right now they are collecting data on 50-60
lakes, taking measurements, creel samples etc. From this database they
will begin implementing various fish managment programs like slot
fishing etc to try and increase yeilds. He asked if we could give him
our tournament records which they add in as creel samples. He wanted
to know if we can give him next years schedules so they can come and do
live sampling. I told him I would talk it over with the membership and
get back to him. He explained they have created an 800 number line
that if you call and tell them your looking for Bass say in Worcester,
they will tell you what lakes have consistently been producing trophy
bass. These are the bass that are submitted to the states trophy
program listed in your license extract. He also told me that they have
a coordinator that handles volunteer work, like the fishing teaching
program that uses volunteers to teach such people as inner city kids
how to fish. He also said during the hard water period, he would be
happy to come and give us a talk on what Mass is doing. Is this
something we would like to do. I also would want this type of meeting
open to the entire company. In any event what do you folks think?

    Oats

    PS.

We talked about Whitehall, he told me they have had very low samples
there and that he asked how our tourniments have done. He was not the
least surprised at the low weigh-in. This lake would be one that the
state would implement a restrictive program in hopes to revive the
    fishery.

222.43Last official DBA tournimentDELNI::OTAFri Mar 03 1995 17:5138
Well all you hawg lovers out there, This is the last official DBA
tourniment you can ever come to.

The Keith "Gitzit" Hauer one fish tourniment will be held on April 29,
1995. As many of you remember the old Gitz passed away last year and
its time we remember him with a tourni in his honor!

I am giving you a choice this year of a couple of things. First the
site, shall it be Singletary or Webster lake? To keep the decision
easy, I'll go with the majority of the votes by March 15.

Now the second choice, as I said we are offically closing off the DBA
club. We have some limited funds left. I want to have printed up 30
Tee shirts with this tourni day and title as mementos for all you who
are going to sign up. So the first 30 in get a shirt. Any extras well
I'll figuire out what to do with them later. Next we collect the usual
points 20 per boat. Since its a one fish there is no hawg pool. I
think we should have enough for 5 payouts based on size. Now heres
your second choice. I can use whatever funds are left to buy burgers,
dogs or whatever and we have a cookeout afterwards, or the winner
chooses the charity of his/her choice and we donate whatevers left of
the DBA club funds in Keiths name. Thats your second choice.

So lets get rolling, kick some life into this dead file and lets roll
with our first tourniment of the year.

Damn like always there are problems in getting tournies going. It
appears the MHH club (where most of the DECCIEs belong) already has a
tournie on April 29. That means they can't make the 30, since most of
these folks are friends of Keiths it would make sense to move the
tournie. I hate moving into a week earlier cause we know what weather
is like in april, why not move it back to May 6. If I move this, I
    hope the MHH folks come.
