817.0. "DECRCM WWII Jamboree??" by UTAH::FRIEDRICHS (Where's the snow??) Wed Dec 28 1988 18:30

As many of you know, I enjoy the WWI R/C Jamboree at Rhinebeck.

Well, from the crazy idea department, why not start a WWII Jamboree??

    - All models must represent a plane that flew during WWII. Stand
way off scale is fine, but no ugly sticks with a mustang paint
    	job.

    - Maybe we can hold it at the New England Escadrille field (last
I knew it was in Stow, MA). Maybe they would even fly some
of the full size a/c for us.

    - Events could include (just like Rhinebeck)..
+ Mission - Bomb drop, baloon burst, and spot landing
+ Scale - Giant and AMA
+ Maneuvers - Pattern type flying

Maybe the DECRCM could sponsor this. I know there are at least
a few people from DEC in the NE Escadrille that might be able to
help us out with a location.

Rhinebeck has been going over 20 years and has been very successful
(well, let me reword that, the consistently have a large number
of flyers. I presume that it translates into money/success)

    Comments?

Hey - what about my Berliner-Joyce?
It is officially a between the wars fighter but after all they
were in the air while Germany was moving in to Poland (I think).
Who knows some Polish pilot might have purchased a surplus BJ and got
shot down by a German.

I will ask that at this time we refrain from straying from the topic
too much. We could "what if" it to death (like other good ideas in
    this conference before).

I believe that the rule would state that if there is any question
about whether or not it flew in the war, then it is up to the pilot
to provide some kind of documentation that it did indeed fly in
    the war.

    Thanks,
    jeff

Wow, is this all the interest there is ? I'd love to see something
come out of this. I have found out the air strip in stow is a 2800
foot strip in the back yard of one of the members of the escadrill.
If more (or any) interest is shown. I'll persue this.

I am sure the problem is that there are very few WWII
models amoung us DECies. If Bill Clark and I ever finish the
Spitfire, or I get a WWII kit for my birthday I'll be very
        interested.

But the number of WWII models in the club is irrelevant. It is
the interest in seeing WWII planes that is critical. I foresee
this event being run by DECRCM and open to the public and there
are plenty of WWII planes out and around...

Oh well, it was a good try, but it looks like there is not enough
    interest.

    cheers,

    Jeff,

Why not consider trying an all-scale/any-scale fly-in type event.
Maybe this would stimulate more interest for the moment than an
event that was more specialized regarding era, vis-a-vis WW-I, WW-II,
    Golden age, etc..

817.7Is there any interest?WRASSE::FRIEDRICHSWhere's the snow??Tue Jan 03 1989 19:1716
    Al,

The reason is that there are a lot of all-scale/any-scale events
in the area. I figured that if a WWI fly-in can attract 150
contestants that a "theme contest" for WWII birds would also be
    a big hit.

I am not opposed to getting (trying to get) the NE Escadrille field
for a more wide open event.

So, I guess the question is, is there any interest in having the
DECRCM host a scale fly-in in the greater Mass area??

    cheers,
    jeff

Your right Anker, I got so excited at the idea I didn't
about that. I do hope that something like this does happen in the
future though so let's at least keep it on the back burnner.

                                              watch out for Gremlins
