608.0. "DECRCM - Greater Maynard Chapter" by RICKS::MINER (Electric = No more glow-glop) Wed Jul 13 1988 14:39

As Dan Snow has mentioned in note 522.114, we have formed a local
chapter of the DECRCM. The purpose of this local chapter is to
support a local flying and driving field. People who wish to use
    the field must:

      - be a DEC employee for liability reasons
(I'm not sure about contract workers at this time)

      - be a member of "DECRCM" ($10.00 annual dues)

      - be a member of "DECRCM - Greater Maynard Chapter" ($5.00 annual dues)

People who live far away (CO, AZ, OZ, MI, VT, etc.) can fly (or
drive) at the local field if they come here on a trip. However,
they still must join both clubs (they may join when they get here).

None of the money from the DECRCM treasury will go towards the local
chapter. The local chapter will be totally self-sufficient.

The reason for getting the local club going at this time is so we
can go ahead and apply for AMA membership and prove to DEC that we
have the AMA insurance. (Note: the AMA will not let the whole
DECRCM be an AMA chartered club. The club must cover an area no
larger than a county. Thus, we must form a local chapter.)

Assuming all goes well, we _MAY_ have the field in 2 to 4 weeks.
We are still negotiating with DEC and it is not yet final. The
field that is currently under consideration is the field in
Lancaster, Mass. near the intersection of routes 2 and 70 next to
the Lancaster House. Let's hope all goes well.

608.1Newest news on a flying fieldROCK::MINERElectric = No more glow-glopFri Jan 13 1989 13:1731
Here is the note Eric was wanting in note 522.something. It already
existed but, like so many other notes, got lost in the shuffle.

Anyway, the newest news on the DEC property field is that we're
STILL getting the run-around and I (as well as others) am getting
very discouraged about the possibility of getting the DEC property
to use as a flying (& driving) site.

On the bright side, everything looks very positive for our chances
to get a field we can use for 4 Fun Flys per year in Stow. A lot
about this has been said in 522.* and I'll refer you to that note
    for details.  But;

PLEASE PUT ALL FUTURE ITEMS REGARDING THE LOCAL CHAPTER HERE.

I am meeting with the board of directors of the CRRC on Sunday at
the field to discuss the exact details of our mutual arrangement and
will post the results here. At the moment, all indicators are that
    everything will be a go.

608.2hold your breath - a (contraversial?) proposalLEDS::HUGHESDave Hughes (LEDS::HUGHES) NKS1-1/E3 291-7214Fri Jan 13 1989 13:3513
I hereby propose that the Greater Maynard Chapter of DECRCM
    become fully focused on FLYING.

I suggest that the driving community (if it exists) be strongly
encouraged to form their own Greater Maynard Chapter. I would
then support cooperation between the two if there is indeed
interest in occasional combined flying/driving events.

If any of you agree, let's put it in the form of a motion and
    vote on it.

I'll second Dave's motion. To ensure there's no
confusion I'll mail the ballot after the current one is closed,
        sometime Monday.

I am 100% in favor of the motion and feel that is the car
buffs want some action its up to them to organize. If they
aren't interested in opganizing, then its just too bad.

I hope the non-flying folks DO feel welcome at DECRCM.
I for one am glad that Ron Miller brought in all those
car bodies with the custom paint jobs for show and tell last time
and I hope soon that some of the boaters bring in some Sail Boats
for show and tell.

Don't feel like you have to be a paying member to come to a meeting
any more than you have to pay to read or write in this notes file.

Come on in - I want to see a big sail boat and see how one of those
sail winch servos actually work.

I add my support to Dave's motion. I don't want to push any special
interests out of DECRCM, but the local chapter should be for FLYING!
That's what the founders had in mind with finding a field a priority.
I want to see the meetings focused on FLYING as well. The other
special interests can just as easily form their own local chapter
for driving (Cars or Boats) if they have enough interest. The notes
file is a good forum for all RC because you can skip over things
that you aren't interested in. At a meeting, you're stuck. If
the meetings aren't interesting to the participants, attendence
will fall off and the thing will fall apart.
    	Let's vote on it Anker!

    RE .8...

I don't believe that changing the focus of the local chapter to
be on flying is prejudicial. The local flying chapter is open to
all members of the DEC community. Drivers would be more than welcome,
but they would also have a clearer understanding that
discussions/events etc would be centered around flying.

How can this be construed as against DEC's charter?

re Note 608.10 "only thing air machines and land machines have in common

NiCd maintenance

It seems to me that the products available to the car people are way
ahead of the airborne market. This will change as electric power
becomes more commonly airborne, but today the fliers can learn a lot
from the participants in the car market. [And both can find gems
in the technical literature that seemingly have not yet been translated
and planted in the hobby literature.]

Electric motors and accouterments

Glues and adhesives?

Painting techniques and equipment

Need for a significant headcount to have clout with our corporate sponsor

Hobby shops and mail-order suppliers [preferences, warnings, etc.]

PROPOSAL FOR THE DISBURSEMENT OF DECRCM
			***************************************

				   TREASURY FUNDS
				   **************

SPECIAL NOTE.....This proposal is directed SOLELY towards
former DUES PAYING MEMBERS of DECRCM.

DECRCM, as an "official" club has not been active for at least 3
years. In order to be regarded as an "official" club, regular
meetings have to be held, called to order, minutes taken, officers
elected, etc. This obviously has not been the case for some time
	now.

When we "were" holding regular club meetings, I was elected treasurer
and still hold the books, and maintain the account. It has gotten to
the point where I get bank statements that I don't even open anymore.
Nothing has changed. I would like to close out the account, retire
the books, and find a fair way to dispose of the money.	Presently,
there is still $109 dollars and some odd cents in the account.

Because this money "belongs" to the people who used to pay dues, and
because some of those people are no longer with the company, a fair
and equitable way to dispose of the money became a problem. However
with the help of the former club president EVIL E., I think there is
a way to use the money that IS fair to all involved.

My proposal is to withdraw the money and make a donation to the AMA
Museum Patrons Fund in the name of DECRCM. That will get us a plaque
hanging in the museum with DECRCM'S name on it.

The purpose of this note is to allow FORMER DUES PAYING MEMBERS to
vote on the proposal. The voting will remain open until Wednesday
	April 28th.

SPECIAL REQUEST......Where most people probably didn't even realize
that there WAS any money, let's not turn this into a rathole. If you
have an alternate suggestion, please feel free to submit it, but
PLEASE make sure it's reasonable. I'm NOT going to divide up the money
and hand it out to people. Thanks!!!!!!!!

My group here has decided that during this crucial time to make all of
our numbers, we should make sure that we dot the "i"s and cross the
"t"s and review all of the product documents that have been neglected
(and unused, I might add) for the last few years.

More middle managers trying to look busy.

Oh, the product... The STK tape library that I have been working on
