1222.0. "looking for Motorola pressure transducer chip" by GIDDAY::CHADD () Fri Jun 15 1990 00:23

Can anybody help me please.

I am trying to build a Barometric Pressure Gauge for setting up the comp on the
racing engines and am unable to locate a Motorola pressure transducer MPX100A.
All the local suppliers are quoting 8-10 weeks delivery.

Could anybody give be the name of a supplier I can order the component using
Visa and have a mail order service to Australia.

At the weekend we had our AMPRA Championships which was the first Australian
team selection trail for the 1991 World Champs in Italy. We took out 2
Australian records and blitzed the competition by over 20 seconds in 6 rounds.
If we can get another fast time at one of the two remaining trials it looks
like I will be going to Milano (sp) in 91.

Thanks

John

>> build a Barometric Pressure Gauge

I don't know about a source for the Motorola pressure transducer
MPX100A, but I have made my own manometer (a loop of vinyl hose with
colored water in the bottom of the loop) to measure pressure and/or
vacuum for an application testing air pumps --- it worked quite well.

What pressure levels do you want to measure? How rapid a response?

         John,

I have located the part (MPX100A) on page 70
of Newark Electronics catalog # 110. They are headquarted
in Chicago, but I have a contact in Methuen Mass. I will
call in an hour to request availability. They do take Visa.

Alton,

The purpose of the pressure gauge it to measure the atmospheric pressure on
race day as it effects the engine setup (comp, plug, etc. selection)

Re: Newark; I will give them a try Thanks very much.

1222.6Do you have spec's on the CasioGIDDAY::CHADDMon Jun 18 1990 22:2522
RE: The Casio watch

Mark,

Does the book of words or promo's give any spec's on the accuracy. The actual
number of millibars displayed in not the problem; however the temperature
compensation is.

All we really want to know is what head clearance required to a specific
barometric pressure not caring if the unit of measure is millibars or widgets.
I will build up a table to show the required clearance.

In events like World Championships you could have 1 1/2 - 2 hours between
rounds and the conditions; pressure and temperature can change substantially in
that time. Normally the Pylon is early in the morning before Aerobatics when the
most dramatic change takes place. The Aerobatic guys like to lay in, and let us
get up with the sparrows.

Thanks for the thought and it it is good enough it will save some considerable
effort.

1222.7Will try to bring in the manualCSC32::M_ANTRYTue Jun 19 1990 13:4811
I will try to bring in the owners manual tomorrow. I do know that the
altitude is +- 20 feet in measurement. But keep in mind that
    temp/pressure affect that measurement.

re: the motorol sensor. We have a guy that got two of them by asking
some part company for a sample. With one he built his own airbourne
recording altimeter that he puts in his sailplane. With the other he
built us a electronic vacumn control switch that we use on our vacumn
pump when bagging composite wings. He has since tried to find them and
is having the same trouble you are.
