1144.0. "ALERT! N.H. BILL#1248 HELP,HELP." by MCIS5::PAPPALARDO (A Pure Hunter) Thu Feb 20 1992 16:23

There's a bill before lawmakers in New Hampshire that would impose
    a ban on hunting.

If passed the bill will increase the safety-zone of 300ft to 1000ft
    STATEWIDE.

If passed, southern N.H. will probably be forever closed to all hunting
as the bill is directed at hunting, not bird, deer, ducks, but all
    hunting.

We need to kill this bill quick. The F&G committe is expected to kill
the bill by recommending against it.

I, We, need all in here to help kill this bill by simply doing the
    following.

Please!!! Weather you're a resident (you better call) or non-resident
please call and simply state your opinion.

All they'll ask is your name and town. If you're a non-res I suggest
you tell them that you spend a lot of time here in N.H. hunting and
spending lots of money each fall.

    PLEASE CALL THE FOLLOWING TODAY.

Call the State house and ask What your REPS and Senator name and phone
number is to OPPOSE this bill.

    THE STATE HOUSE # 603-271-1110

    THE BILL # HB-1248

    OR CALL REP-ALLEN WIGGIN @ 603-253-7781 He's in charge of the F&G
committee, he's against this bill, he's neither pro-hunting or
anti-hunting, this is his home phone, just tell his wife or him your
name, town, state and the you want to kill bill # 1248.

    THANKS!!!

    Rick

Let us know how you make out. I'd love to know how many calls get
    generated
from this note but, that's up to you, if you wish to disclose the info.

    THANKS AGAIN!!

If worse comes to worse, and the bill is unkillable, you might want to
point out that Massachusetts gets along quite well with a 500 foot
limit. (Which doesn't put much deer habitat out of bounds.)

I just called. The lady at the state house said it was in the F&G
Committee. The number she gave for them was 271-3125. They are not
there today, but she said they were planning to meet either Monday or
Tuesday, so try calling that number then.

    Mark,

It was sent out of committee with an "inexpedient to legislate" recommendation
several weeks ago. The last I heard it was supposed to have been voted on by
the full house, but I have seen no reports of what the outcome of that was.

1144.10How would the messure it?APACHE::DAYWed Apr 15 1992 15:5320

This would of messed my hunting up. How in the world
though the woods could a person even know at times they were
1000 feet or more away from something. I wonder how they
would message it. A staight line or along the ground. Some
ridges may put you 1000 feet along the ground but only
400 in a staight line. The three hundred foot rule is a good
one. It is based really on common sence. Most times in the
woods around here the maximum distance you can see is 300 feet.
It is only common sence if you can see a home or town road to
unload or make a 180 and head back into the woods.

I am glad it did not pass. The next time you hear of this type
of thing, please call me at home. We have to stick together.

    	 424-5540.
