797.0. ""The Hunt For John"" by WFOV11::DRUMM () Tue Oct 09 1990 17:34

    This note is to update all on my quest of John Keyworth.

    	To date I know his feeding grounds and bedding area. I have still
    to discover his work area, ;^) I began my hunt with the initial
    scouting mission. I have discovered that one of his main feeding masts
    is stir fried veggies. So I will be taking a stand beside his bedding area
    near the veggie garden.

    	More to come........

    Steve, I'd put a stand in the trees at the North-west corner
    of DEC-WFO's property. Preferably within range of the parking
    lot across diagonally.

    Any foxy looking does in the area? That'll be a sure bet.

    Yep. John's rubs and scrapes have been found on both sides of
    Rte. 202, near three waterholes known as the Purple Onion,
    Apremont Tea Room, and Ricky's 49'er :-) The run is straight
    east-to-west.

    (Course, it's been a while since I hunted that area, the locals
    may have renamed the hot spots :-) )
797.4No, Stevie. Johnny can't come out to play.WFOVX5::KEYWORTHWed Oct 10 1990 19:4030
    Now wait a minute. This guys supposed to be an expert. He doesn't
    need the help of the rest of you slime dogs. (Hey, if your going
    to p#ss of one guy why not let everyone have it. :^) :^) )

    re .1 Sorry I don't come in that way. Opps, ahhh sh#t, damm...

    re .2 Maybe, but I move pretty quick. I know, I know, that's what
          she said.

    re .3 Nope, gave that up. It doesn't like me anymore and I don't
          enjoy it as much anymore. Must be gettin old. So ya see I'd
          probably be tough meat and not worth the bother. Right????

    Nope, you've got to get up pretty early in the morning to find this
    old buck. Ya see I learned how to read this year and I've been readin
    all those huntin magazines that tells everyone where to go and what
    to do. Course maybe that won't matter since I don't know if Stevie
    has learned to read yet. HAA HA Ha ha I kill me. Which is more than
    Mr. Lucky Drumm will ever do. Ooooooooo!!!! Right to the heart.

    Well I've been standin in this spot too long already. Time to move
    back to the thick brush in the middle of the swamp holding the
    alligators and pirahna, following the secret path that doesn't go
    through the quick sand. Man, I hope it doesn't snow tonight.

	Update:

	I have discovered one of John's secondary bedding areas. To my surprise
it was right here in the Westfield plant. I have placed a trail-timer on a pole
next to the trail.

	One advantage of hunting John is that the local Does can talk!! And I
have been told "don't try to finding John with them," they don't want
anything to do with him. ;^) However they did say he could be found from
time to time hanging around the rubbing post outside the ladies room.

	The Veggie garden was not visited by John last evening, A very nice
Doe did visit however. A smaller doe and button buck was with her. The button
buck looked a little like John, But Nawwwwww couldn't be. NO doe that nice
would associate with the likes of John.

	I ran and setup a stand over looking the main trail to the personnel
Dept but John had already entered that Swamp. I dared no try to follow lest
I be tied up and forced to listen to some policy dribble about Valuing John's
differences.

	Like any good hunt it takes time to sort out all the scouting info
and setup the perfect stand.

	The hunt continues..........

797.7getting close!!WFOV12::DRUMMFri Oct 12 1990 11:3115
	Update:

	Getting closer, caught a glimpse of John this morning as he left
his secondary bedding area. Thought I was going to get a shot but he took
a secondary trail and headed to a congregation of fellow humans. A class on
evasive maneuvers I heard....

	I will be setting up stand near the mid-day feeding area this noon.
I should get a good look at him and maybe even a shot. Things are looking
up!! 8^)

	The hunt continues..........

797.8Nervous John??WFOVX8::DRUMMMon Oct 15 1990 14:4210
    	He's getting nervous!!!!

    	Seems as John is taking A LOT of vacation days of late. I have all
    my "I beam" stands up and shooting lanes picked out. Had to clear a few
    plants out of the way but all is set now. 8*)

    	Time is on my side. It's open season ALL year!!! Best part about
    this hunt, I can go as often as I want. That is, until I get my quary.

    	Steve
797.9The hunt is Over!WFOV11::DRUMMTue Oct 16 1990 15:2215
	Well I must report with some sadness that the hunt is over.
I bagged John this morning as he was about to enter his secondary
bedding area. He made a critical mistake, he stopped to spar with
on of the other local bucks. Some foolishness about registration
fees on his truck. Stood in one place too long. I thought the gig
was up when the other buck called out my name and John ducked. My
first rubber band went wide as he moved. I quickly moved into a new
shooting position and scored a hart shot!!

	But now I'm in trouble with the Warden. At the check station
the warden Doc. told me he was sub legal in length. I didn't ask
what was short So I'll have to wait for the court to tell me?!? ;^)

797.10Tis the end of another season.WFOVX5::KEYWORTHTue Oct 16 1990 17:4017
    Alas, the gig is up. But, it was a long and difficult hunt for
    Steve even though I show up in the same spot almost every morn-
    ing at the same time. :^) Nope luck just hasn't been on my side
    the last few days. I was in Upstate NY this last weekend muzzleloader
    hunting and as we left my parents driveway Sunday morning around
    6:00, about 75 feet from the house was a doe and two skippers. (Does
    are legal in NY during muzzleloader) Unfortunatly the law in NY
    is the same as in mass. 500 feet and it was still dark, plus my
    In-laws live right there to during this time of year and they're
    not that enthusiastic about my hunting escapades. Talk about a triple
    wammy. Did get my blood goin though so I'm ready for the rest of
    the seasonssssss. Haaa I love it. My wife's gonna be the one huntin
    my a$$ next.

    The only satisfaction I'll have left over from the rumm hunt is
    that I booby trapped his office before he got me this morning. I
    wonder if I should tell him since the hunt is over........ na.
