407.0. "Mass season changes?" by JUPITR::MILLS () Mon Jun 19 1989 17:48

    I was reading the local paper saturday 6/17 (Worcester Telegram and Gazette)
    the writer made mention the deer season would remain the same but
    seemed to have the dates all screwed up . He also said rifled barrels
    could be used beginning in '90 . Does anyone know of he proposed
    changes in the Mass. deer seasons ? Thanks

    The shotgun season will remain as is - starts the Monday after
    Thanksgiving.

    *Muzzleloaders* will be allowed the use of rifled caplocks
    starting *this year*

    from our local paper a few days back

407.3Quabbin hunts??EUCLID::PETERSONPanama has no 2nd ammendmentMon Jul 31 1989 14:468

    	Did I read in Mass. Fins/Feathers that there might be a special
	hunt this year or next in the Quabbin area? It seems that people
    	are getting concerned about the over grazing problem there.

    They are considering opening Quabbin to hunting due to
    the excessive numbers of deer there. It has gotten to the
    point where excessive browsing is hurting the undergrowth
    of the forests, which is considered bad for water quality.

    At long last, the MDC is starting to realize that game
    biologists know what they're talking about.

    Some controversy will no doubt arise - typical anti-hunter
    BS, fear of littering/pollution, 'key club member' opposition.
    Also, a lot of hunters currently hunt the perimeter of the
    reservation, and might oppose the changes. (I don't understand
    this last - seems hunters *in* the reservation would push
    some deer *out* - I'm getting this from a local newspaper
    column.)

    This probably won't go through for 1989, but 1990, who knows.

    Me, I'll stay away. I did my time in the rte. 202 'war zone',
    too many pinheads.
