84.0. "Watch your DOGS at WMAs" by SHRBIZ::NELSOND (Bang.....Bang....Bang.Bang) Wed Nov 18 1987 11:03

    	I've heard now from two sources, a friend reading in the
    Assabet Valley Beacon, and from the town clerk in Lancaster,
    that a "field trial quality" hunting dog (I heard it was a
    setter, but I'm not sure) was stolen, crate and dog, out of
    a vehicle at the BOLTON FLATS. The lady at the town clerk's
    office told me a $1000 reward has been posted for the dog.

    	They hang dog thieves, don't they ?????????

84.1I've never met a dishonest dog20263::JUCHWed Nov 18 1987 14:5810
    This is something I have been concerned about. I use a dog trailer
    with multiple locks, but if someone wants that dog, s/he can get
    it with bolt cutters, etc.
    What to do? Tatoo the dog? Dunns' has a service whereby you can
    register your dog, via a collar with information that you obtain
    from them. They give you a registration # and there is an 800 #
    on the collar. This only works if the dog is lost, not stolen.
    I think the problem is larger than just WMAs. Keep your dog locked
    up. It will keep the honest honest.

84.2Lock'em upCSC32::WATERSThe Agony of DeleteWed Nov 18 1987 15:2115
    I had this kind of thing happen to me. I breed my Brit. with the
    85 field champ. There was only 2 pups in the litter. One sold
    and the other went to a Ducks Unlimited Acution. At the dinner
    the dog was left outside. When we came back out the dog was
    gone.

    Come to find out the someone just opened the kennel door and let
    him out. They found the pup roaming around and he was returned the
    next day.

    Problem was he never made it to the auction. Missed out on some
    big bucks ($$) too.

    I agree, Lock your dogs up.
