557.0. "Searching for Marine Surveyor" by LEDS::MOVALLI () Wed Nov 15 1989 13:30

Does anyone know of a good marine surveyor in the Bolyston,
Marlboro area. I would prefer surveyor that someone has
used with good success before. I am current looking at
    a 1988 25' Bayliner Ciera.

    Thanks much
    MM

I would like to thank you for the referal of Ralph Merrill. We
went to Bolyston yesterday to survey the Bayliner and he uncovered
a major problem. The hull on the starboard side all the way back
towards the stern had an unusual shape to it. About a 10 in diameter
circle appeared to pop out from the hull. After the examination,
Ralph could only conclude that one of the "cross-beams" (not sure
what they call this) within the hull frame was simple too long
forcing this portion of the hull to pop out. Whatever, it is
irreparable. Because of the location, it is more dangerous since
it could crack under stress. They apparently use less fiber-glass
in that section of the hull. Needless to say, I did not make the
purchase. So, thanks once again and I'll keep looking and surely
use Ralph on the next one.

Glad you found that defect B4 a purchase was made....

BTW: That cross-beam is known as a stringer....

re .3:

Er ah, don't stringers run fore and aft? The transverse members are floors.

Ah yes you may be right.... the part I equated to "stringers"
    was:

> towards the stern had an unusual shape to it. About a 10 in diameter

When I should have paid more attention to:
